Destabilize a Reactor by GeroX

[raw]
made by GeroX for Ludum Dare 49 (COMPO)

Cover.png Someone updated the computer on the spaceship you are on. However, it seems that the computer has started a route straight into an asteroid. To stop it, you have to destabilize the reactor, so that it will be auto-ejected.

Gameplay

Gain credits by completing tasks, such as doing maintenance and interacting with the computer to the right. You also passively get some credits.

With the credits, buy things from the constructor to throw anything you can get your hands on into the reactor. However, the reactor will slowly repair itself.

If you can make it unstable within 2 minutes, you win.

Doing Maintainance on panels will also repair the reactor a bit

Interesting kind of minigame, feels sort of like a point and click? I was surprised there were so many items.

The game loop itself seems a little narrow, there aren't many options for the player to take, just work and use the money for the shop...

Still an impressive display for compo to have a complete game, great work!

Nice visuals, 'trash can' skip is useful!

Good job, bonus points for Godot!

Very nice concept and a perfect fit for the theme! Add some polish and a bunch of different minigames to the stations and you have yourself a fully releasable game! :D

I though the graphics for the reactor and the floor panels were pretty cool. Pulling out the panels was weirdly satisfying

Nice take on the theme! There should be some kind of feedback when making it unstable ; I didn't notice the (huge, that's on me) screen at first and wasn't sure that the things I threw had any impact.

The visuals are pretty good, and the sound effects are cool! Too bad there is no music :(

Nice entry !

Figuring out the right strategy for completing tasks and dumping things into the reactor with which items was interesting. I really liked the game duration here - I played the game again without any regrets or hard feelings. You also put in lots of work and polish for the different chores and items - and the reactor room looked great with the glow!

Overall a good game, I had fun!

5 attempts, best one was 5% ! Nice reactor look. Gameplay is a bit confusing, I tried some combinations and bought all types of objects but didn't manage to find out the winning strategy

Fun game, I like the graphics and sound.

Won on the second attempt, I had to save up a load of cash in the first minute and then spend the second minute chucking as much as I could afford in the reactor.

The voice acting was a nice touch! Also I really like the glow ups you did. It took me a couple of seconds to figure out what to do initially, but once I figured it out, the concept is really cool. This game is also really stressful haha (in a good way). The mood was established greatly as a result. Good entry!

presented as multidirectional but ends up being very linear in practice.
some randomness in the tasks at least(for eg, tasks abruptly failing) or any kind of rival force other than time would have been fun

otherwise everything looks very complete and well executed. i had the most fun when i had the bin on my head and doing al the tasks XD

Neat little game. I found the trash can humorous. I think if it was longer and had more levels it could be pretty addicting.

cool concept. it would be more intersting if there was another mechanic so its not only about the right time to stop doing tasks and start buying items

Everything changes in this game, when you wear a garbage head. Then it's real fun and easy-going, even if the chances are off. Keep it up!)

I wasn't able to run the HTML5 version, but the downloaded one worked pretty fine. It's really fun to wear the trash can. Great game you did there.

I like the idea, I feel like with some expansion this could be pretty fun. Perhaps if there were ways to set the timer back by some amount, or the core is restabilising as you go? Just something to add some tension to whether you're going to win or not, as it is you feel more like just doing work until you either win or don't. Still a really good entry though, well done!

The mood and world you created is great and unusual for a jam game. The sfx like typing and narration from the countdown helps draw you in as well as the animations on the computers/reactor. The positional audio on the reactor is nice too. If there was some kind of energetic feeling during lose/win conditions it would really push it over the top. A positional, toggleable audio source for music like a radio would probably hit the spot too.

I wish which it was more obvious which things are giving you the best income. To win I ended up just spamming the same object. Maybe cooldowns on them or/and a rng tasklist for replayability? I did like losing a few times before figuring it out so good job on that. I like that the reactor slowly heals so there is some strategy in spending your coins all at the end for the best results.
