10/10 GREAT game. Love the different gameplay aspects. Great job!

This was excellent! I enjoyed the gameplay twist. The puzzle portion of the game was already not to bad for a jam, but the twist really made this a gem. Great job!

Very unique take! I was sure after the content warning that there would be some bloody shark scene if you send the penguins to the water but I was wrong! It took me a while to understand I can actually keep controlling the penguins all the time, not just for the first move. Might play again now that i know better how to control them! I liked the different scenarios and that the controls and camera angle also changed between them! Shoving other penguins to the sea in FPS perspective made me feel guilty.

Just the real time penguin strategy game would have been cool enough for a jam game, but you really went above and beyond. :black_circle:

Thanks for the web build. I think it worked perfectly and I don't really like downloading and runnning random .exe .

@joonamo Thanks :D I really prefer web builds myself too when playing so I tried to make the web build as smooth as possible. I just hit some bad issues with playtesting (literally froze one machine needing a reboot on a level transition) so the disclaimer is there mostly just in case.

Nice game, kudos for managing to make the different gameplays this nice within the time limit!

The "twist" felt kinda gratuitous tbh, not sure it's my thing but it's always nice to try and surprise the player. Overall, nice entry!

Wow! This is really something.

The penguin controls are really responsive, and the melting/sinking iceberg mechanic is just great. My first thought upon finishing the first level was "I wish there was some sort of reward for moving the penguins simultaneously", and your answer to that is really innovative.

The twist was unexpected (good!) but it was a little unclear what was going on. I'm still not 100% sure if I ended up in the twist because you'd forced it or if I missed a puzzle solution. I'm also not sure if I experienced everything the twist had to offer.

Bonus points for creating a 3D game that I can actually run in my browser.

Ok, I should stop playing games with cute penguins at night, jesus, that first encounter. Enjoyed it to the finished, even though I feel like the styles did not really mash that well, but both seem interesting on their own, especially the penguins.
Anyway, nice entry, graphics are awesome, slide mechanic feels fair and controls are smooth, I feel like it can be a mayhem kind of game on mobile to pass time.

It's just perfect in every sense, oh god. The audio, the art, the mechanics. I love the slippery ice, love how the penguins float with empty eyes after you fail them ( I felt bad for them :( ), love the way the ice slowly falls in a few levels and you have to juggle 2 penguins at the same time!!!

Absolutely loved the twist, I laughed so hard, it was amazing!

I just spontaneously clicked on the game because the penguins looked sweet and that's how the gameplay felt. Nice game with sweet pinguins and it looked very polished. This would have gotten a solid rating. Then comes the twist which I just didn't expect at all. I immediately loved it, and got doki doki vibes right away. Great work!

Very nice game.
Graphics looked very good.
The sounds were nice and the music very fitting.
Felt like it could use some way to reset the game manually, since losing a penguin meant i had to sacrifice the others to the sea.
Overall a very fun and cute game.

Wow. That was NOT what I was expecting. This game is really ambitious, and it absolutely nails it. The gameplay is simple and charming, the music is catchy and the graphics are really well done, and I had already considered it one of the better games I had played on here. And that was before IT happened. I did not expect the twist to happen, but when it did it made me wonder why very few other games on the jam had decided to interpret the theme that way, as it was a very obvious idea in hindsight. Overall, this is a absolutely wonderful game. Amazing job on it.

(You guys made the black penguins eyes red so it looked like it was on [*redacted*] on purpose, didn't you.)

I really love this game, I didn't expect that the small plot twists, it some how creates this story that I don't really get, but ahh it's defently one of those games that seem like doki doki literature club but first person, this is a great submission and I wish you luck on nailing 1st position on this!

That 'this game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed' really wasn't lying, huh?

...but really, I went in expecting a twist, due to it and a few other ratings I skimmed through here, and I wasn't left disappointed. The perspective change half-way through the game is an amazing twist. Combined with the great audio design and with how surprisingly polished the game is... This isn't a jam game, it's an experience. Literally 10/10

What a fun and cute game. Though it felt easy at first with one penguin, as soon as the others were added I was constantly trying to save my situation after one of them got a little too much attention. In short, guiding penguins is not a job for everybody.

The main game itself would have been enough with the great art style and nice challenge of having to control multiple penguins at once, but then the gameplay twist took it to another level. I'm not quite sure I get the second part of the game, but I love the concept of the change up.

Oh man, this is super adorable! I love the cheerful sound effect and the music is so happy. and oh my god what. What in the world. I have experienced video game whiplash, and I thank you so much for the experience.

That was such an amazing "what the f-" moment, that I was genuinely in awe at what just happened. So then it goes back to goofy bumpy penguins right? And I'm just bumping along now fearing what I've witnessed. That's some brand new emotions right there.

Anyway, super adorable, I love the goofy little dudes, very cute. This game just makes me h̵̘͝a̸͕̰͆p̶̙̓̕p̴̳̺̈́̋y̵̨͋̈́.

the indirect control of the Piguine is a great core game design element and fits the theme perfectly.
The whole game could only have been built on this element. The dark chaotic would not have been necessary. But still great game with cool graphics. congrats on your entry.

Puzzle levels are really good. Players can decide to quickly finish the game (only one penguin is needed) or to challenge themselves and catching all the stars.
I also liked the movement mechanic, but I had a hard time perceiving the height of the icebergs, where penguins start.

From the narrative point of view: the fact that only penguin is needed to complete a level, made me think that maybe only penguin is needed to complete that creepy ritual(?) at the end.

This alone make me think about your game as something that MUST be further explored, and therefore that you wrote a good experience.

What a game ! That caught me completely off guard, especially since the first part of the game is so typical of what you typically see in game jams (the polish of this first part helped a lot !)

Strengths :
- Polish all the way (visual/gameplay/…)
- Fantastic tonal shift, with some recontextualisation along the way

Possible improvement :
- I do not really see any ; platforms with elevation at the start are a bit confusing, but that’s a nitpick

Fantastic game !

Penguin devs UNITE! Holy crap was I NOT expecting this polished and incredible quality of a game, in aspects visual as well as gameplay wise. I appreciated the twist throughout it and completely threw me through a loop, and I appreciate that acting as another source of the unstable theme. The gameplay in general was honestly enough, but that additional bit and the ending made me just want to see even more out of sheer morbid curiosity. Bonus points for making it run so buttery smooth in the browser too. EASILY an 11/10 from me here, absolutely incredible and would recommend anyone playing this for themselves!

The weird thing is that the game is already fun and unstable without the tunnel. So the tunnel narration seems unstable within unstable, yet with levels continuing the mood (after the tunnel) wears off. Cool penguins anyway, thanks for the game!

That's some next level stuff. Not only it's polished and fun on one side, it's also surprising and thrilling on the other. It's a shame the content warning spoils the twist a bit, but I understand why it's needed. Great job.
Pixelydian
07. Oct 2021 · 15:13 UTC
First I know some people find the content warnings to be spoilers, but thank you for doing so. I sometimes let my children play "kid friendly" jam games I find since they're usually hanging around while I'm rating, and if I have a heads up that something may be upsetting I save it for when they're not around.

Really unexpected twist though! The first portion of the game was solid in and of itself and makes a good puzzle game, but good job with the unsettling atmosphere of the second portion. I don't really understand what was going on but it was disturbing lol. Overall great art and music, and you succeeded at subverting my expectations. Good work guys!

Whoa, that was so polished and well executed! I loved the twist after a couple levels. Honestly shocked me the first time that monster came out of the wall after me. What a great innocent game about penguins that I can get all my younger cousins to play!

Ok admittedly I had to ask my friend to play the game for me, but it's quite well polished. I think there was some disconnect between 1st person and top-down, as in the modes felt like they were part of different games, but maybe that's what you were going for. Overall, really nice job done, and I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight.

I loved how the SFX were designed to be in the same key than the catchy music !
Great synth sounds, by the way.

Fun game! I did not really get the cave part and what was going on. For me it would have been totally fine to just have those puzzle stages because it was getting quite challenging to control more than one penguin at a time! Still a very good game!

Totally caught me off guard. That twist was wild! Really well put together game. ALL of the critters in the game were adorable. I even got to hang out with the big one up close and personal! Well done!

What did I just play? That was unexpected! At first I thought: yeah nice solid game. But then you took it to the next level! So glad to see someone really going for it with the theme!

I was scared... Did not expect that when I started playing with those lovely penguins. Very good entry but too stressful for me.

Hey great game! The slippery ice made it pretty challenging and fun to get all the penguins across. Really like the final level too but I just cannot for the life of me find the last star??? I got all the penguins safe but I'm still missing one. Anyone who hasn't played it, can *you* try playing through the game and find it? ; )

This is the first Ludum Dare game that actually scared me! The warning on the title screen already gave me a feeling that something unusual might happen, but I certainly didn't expect THAT. :D Great entry!

Man I wish this game never ended! That first switch had me going "what the fuck..." out loud. Other than the idea being pure genius I'm also super impressed that you guys managed to make all of this within the short timeframe.

I would pay money for a full version of this game, AMAZING job!

What a cute little non-scary puzzle game you guys made! I thought it was a neat spin on slippery platforms gameplay. (loved the sudden tone shift and surprised gameplay)

Walking on ice is already very unstable, and it's interesting to have to use more difficult controls

I was not expecting to get a heart attack from wobbling penguins. Absolutely incredibly game! I'm glad I got to play it before the end of the rating period because it is by far the best one I've played!
