The Alchemyst by zedutchgandalf

[raw]
made by zedutchgandalf for Ludum Dare 49 (COMPO)

You are an old Alchemist, forgotten by society.
In your little hut, you spend your last days brewing some very experimental potions.

Try to keep the heat under control by stirring the pot at the correct intervals or else something might go terribly wrong. Then again, who's to say your experiments won't go wrong anyway?

Click the pot to stir the concoction and try to keep the heat at the correct levels. Let it fall too much and everything explodes. Unlock new upgrades to improve your potion making process and who knows? Maybe you'll discover something that can actually help humanity forward!

* Post-compo update 1 (2021-10-04) *
I just released the first post-compo update which mainly fixes some graphical issues and accessibility features. Do beware that the current web version is this post-compo version since Itch.io doesn't allow me to host multiple browser versions of the same game at the same time. The original LD49 version of the game, however, is still available via the non-web links on this page. A more expansive update report is available over on itch.io.

I stirred the pot, then upgraded to a bigger pot, and the pot stopped making potions, so I don't know how to proceed, sorry.

LOL we had the same basic idea. A wonderful little clicker.

Cool clicker game. Nice graphics and style. I liked being able to see the stats next to the game. Nice work!

a very good job with art, impressive.
It's a good touch on the fire bar for a bit of a change. Well done.

@zarkonnen Did you get an error? And what browser are you using? I've never seen that happen before...

Nice interpretation of the theme. I liked the athmosphere. I would have liked to read the upgrades while playing, currently you need to pause I think

@loudlout Thanks for the feedback! I know it's a bit easy / short. I didn't want to make it overly complex but I might have gone too far in the other direction...

@morris Thanks for the feedback! If you want to fully read the upgrades you do have to pause the game. I couldn't find a way to make it work without pausing. Just buying the upgrades without reading them does work fine without pausing, especially once you get a few stabiliser upgrades.

I've been testing awesome games for a while and this is one more. I loved the game, the models, graphics, mechanics ... everything is 10. I had some error when pausing the game when the cauldron has exploded, but not important. Congratulations on the game you have made :)

Well I guess I'll just be burning in this black hole for the rest of my life now.

Seriously though, solid game. I also couldn't figuere out, how to get the autoclicker to work properly, but that was no issue, since brewing by hand gets so much more comfertable with time.

I enjoyed it! I do wish it was a bit more challenging.

This feels like an idle game, but one that you can't walk away from. An active-idle game?
I like that you included all the stats to be visible. That's feels like exactly what fans of incremental games are looking for!

Neat little game, I enjoyed it, made it to the end, and made the world a better place.

Nice! I like seeing incremental submissions. Thanks for making this :)

I think this had a nice little curve to it. Not too long (good for a jam) and not too short (bad for an incremental). You could say it was a great mixture!

The light crackling of the fire lent a nice atmosphere to an otherwise often thematically-disengaged genre. I had a little trouble with the instructions in the beginning thinking I had to keep the meter between the fire and the bottom instead of over the fire, but that might just be my tired brain tonight. I could see this being fleshed out into a longer game and that I'd enjoy, especially if the auto-stir feature is polished and made into a true idler, allowing you to expand and add other mechanics.

Overall, well done! I thoroughly enjoyed myself :)

Nice clicker game! Very satisfying and relaxing! Only complaints were that the stirring causing the bar to "jump" up felt a bit hard to grasp at fist, but the auto clicker just seemed more of a hassle than worth to me. still overall I enjoyed the game!

Nice simple game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 49 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/bBL_dduqErg
