20 Seconds to Survive by PROJECTaroid

[raw]
made by PROJECTaroid for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

ROJECTaroid 20sec 4.png

You have 20 seconds to evacuate your starship before the unstable engines explode.

How to Play: LEFT and RIGHT ARROWS to move, UP AAROW to jump.

About the Game: I used LD49 as an opportunity to learn something new. I used an afternoon to learn how to make a simple platformer in PICO-8. This game was made in 6 hours following the platformer tutorials on NerdyTeachers.com I was not able to get a music system working during the short development time.

I had a really fun time with this, it took me 3 tries and I had fun getting a little further each time. It was cool to see a platformer that made the fact that you have a long floaty jump be a more difficult factor due to the time limit. The sound FX were a nice touch too.

Very solid little platformer! I like the floating, and the collisions worked great (I know how hard those can be with platformers). I think it would be nice if it wasn't so much trial and error, maybe have different paths to go on instead of dead ends? Some obstacles would be nice too. Otherwise, very solid game for LD, great work!

Fun gameplay.
I can jump in air forever, is it glitch?
Sometimes, lost which object is wall or background.
But nice concept 2D platformer! well done!!

Simple concept that I really enjoyed, the animations are smooth and is fun to play, tho I also believe that some audio and music would add a lot to the game, mine I also tried some simple concept with cool mechanics :P

Love the Naruto run.

The game controls are smooth, and I like the animation for stopping.

A bit too reliant on trial and error with simply not being able to see far enough ahead to know what path to take, and it would help to have a jump button, rather than simply using up (especially since I played on a controller). The platforming is good, if just a little bit floaty, though maybe that was the intent.
