Buggy the Bunny by Don Fouts

[raw]
made by Don Fouts for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

itchbanner.png

Try to get Buggy Bunny to his yummy box of carrots! Play through 4 informative tutorial levels and 7 challenging platforming levels. The developers, out of the kindness of their hearts, have left a developer panel open you! You can not only adjust Buggy's speed and how high he can jump. You can adjust the environment around buggy, even gravity. Be careful, the more you adjust these settings the more unstable the game may become.

WARNING: This game may potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.

We couldn't go any further than starting point, but the idea is pretty nice

My mind is blown, that anyone is able to make this in a jam...

This is a really cool idea, and extremely thematic! Unfortunately the visual artifacting during scene transitions was a little too intense for me - I don't have epilepsy, but it was really uncomfortable to play for more than five minutes or so. I think I made it to the last level based on the description, but I couldn't keep going to see the end because I was having too much trouble with the visuals :(

That said, it might just be because I've been staring at a screen for the past 72 hours or so though 😂 I'll try to remember to come back and finish!

As an aside, you might want to move your epilepsy warning above your screenshots though - I was going to mention that you might want to include one, but I only just now saw it as I was scrolling back up after leaving my comment!

Each day we stray further from God's light.

Edit-I didn't originally say too much, because I thought my original comment was funny, but I have some thoughts on this game. First of all though don_fouts, thanks for checking out my own game. It means a lot to me. Honestly I can't help but feel a little sheepish, Buggy The Bunny is a really polished and wonderfully creepy experience. Anyways, Buggy The Bunny is delightful. When I first started, I really wanted to find some way to get across the first gap without cheating. It's great design that I can't. The game's mechanic is immediately addictive and the atmosphere is really strong. I had a lot of fun messing with the variables. Also, I'm not 100% sure if it was Buggy, but uhh. Did you open a youtube video of dancing skeletons while I was playing? I really hope it was you and not that my computer is cursed now. . .

This game is a real beauty! such a good idea to use 'cheats' as a game mechanic.
I do have to say the artifacting was a little bit too much, but other than that it's insane

this game kinda gave off potato's farm / submission vibes, very fun game overall. but, for some reason, one of the "next level" buttons in one of the stages just didn't send me to the next level, and the button stayed on the screen.

This is incredibly unsettling and I love it. The way it uses disconcerting imagery and sounds to punish the player for "cheating" is brilliant. It's also really clever in that the platforming mechanics not being all together *there* just enhances the theme and overall experience. Great work.

Really fun game! I loved the puzzle solving elements added with the mechanics such as the levels in which you must manipulate gravity. The effects were really cool and caught me a bit off guard but that was cool. :)

Great visuals and art direction. This is a promising concept, though sadly it's not exactly groundbreaking - still, I really liked the way you pulled it off, with all the background alterations, shader glitches, sound corruptions and the like. My biggest gripe with it was its repetition - the game sadly doesn't deviate much from the standard puzzle, and at the end I expected some sort of twist. Maybe that was a bit more of my fault though.

Really cool idea and well implemented! I love the contrast in the moods. It gave me that "Oh, have I gone too far?" moment which was a lot of fun. Also the platforming level design was phenomenal! The art, music, post processing effects, and gameplay all carry it home for a very polished game. Excellent job!

Had issues with jumping not working on occasion and fell off things.
The glitching got a little annoying after a few levels, I found it too disruptive. Maybe if it didn't happen so often I'd be okay with it.
I do like the overall concept, and the graphics changes to creepy bunny.

Heck yeah, I am win! The jump button is a bit unresponsive on slopes, but overall I really enjoyed this. The glitchy visuals are really well made, and I like the 'creepy pasta' looking effect that would occasionally happen. I don't know what caused this... (and I assume it was this game? I tried replicating it with no luck) but a youtube link opened up for a video called "please stop". In the event that it was caused by this game, I'm not a big fan of the game I'm playing opening links... In any case, the game was a lot of fun and I enjoyed tweaking the game's values to whatever I wanted! Cool game.
