Turrim by Proxy-Games

Welcome to Turrim, where the main goal is to stack blocks as high as possible. Watch out, however, as the blocks have physics. One wrong placement, and the entire tower can come down!

The only problem that was annoying is that the guidelines are not very precies in terms of where a block will fall.
It happened to me more then onece when putting blocks near eachother while using the grid-snap the edges of the blocks would collide and the block would fly off the platform.
If it wasn't for this problem I would still be playing this game.
Please if you happen to fix this let me know, I would love to play this game on my pc when i'm bored.
(Also thanks for the practice mode!) (Also also, come check out my game! It is kinda of similar to yours in a way)
It is being let down by the lack of rotation and also the music. One of the biggest draws for Tetris was the music, and I think a proper tribute shoulda put a bigger emphasis on that and the mechanics than the looks (which are incredible for a game jam btw). Props to you for a really impressive submission!
Physics works fine, I love the effect of amortization when there are a lot of blocks on base. It is not boring due to the short time limit. Nice one!
Also - congrats on getting physics to play nice. It can be a tricky task
Maybe I would also like the blocks to be heavier and fit better, but it's just my perception.
I like the idea, inspired by tricky towers. The blocks do feel a bit too bouncy tho.
Good work!
You've done a very good job all around, from the nice control scheme to the appropriately fitting visuals and audio.
My only gripe would be with the design, which feels overly similar to Tricky Towers... (I mean, aren't jam games supposed to be about innovation?)
Overall great entry. Good Job!
@Saidrog You wanted me to let you know if the physics ever get corrected, and while I can't promise 100% consistency due to the unpredictable nature of physics, it should behave a *lot* better in this new version.
Simplistic concept, and very well executed. It took all of two seconds to learn and while there's certainly a lot that can go wrong, it's mostly due to my own poor judgement.
I was pleasantly surprised by how stiff the blocks can feel. Dropping a block from the top certainly has enough force to destabilize loose blocks, but otherwise the blocks are able to hold together relatively well in circumstances where other physics based games would throw in the towel and start launching the objects apart. (I am talking about your 1.0.1 release so I can't speak for past versions)
The lack of a rotate button caught me off guard, but I feel like it really forces you to take some unusual risks in block placement.
To make this short, nicely done! I hope you get a chance to add some SFX in a postjam release as a good collision sound and some little blips on input are all I feel the game is missing.
The variety of controls available was very handy in lining up the blocks 😁
And they felt good too, as a previous commenter has mentioned, it felt good when you dropped them and they stuck. I feel like a rotate button might have allowed for more variety in how you could stack them but maybe it would change it too much.
the art was nice and the sound was great too :D
good job!
- First, the blocks are a bit too bouncy. I managed to make a block land with a flat surface on another flat surface, and it bounced off and tipped over the edge (like wtf?).
- Second, blocks can take a really long time to settle into a stable state. It happened a few times, that suddenly the whole tower would collapse (No real input or visible cause at that moment). I suspect it is, because some slowly tipping block at the bottom decided to fall down, removing the base from the tower.
Appart from these minor issues, you game is a fun distraction when class gets boring.
PS: My final score is about 2500, btw. I would love to know what you managed to get.
@pd-dev Sounds like there's still issues with the physics in this game-shoot. It's really weird because I've set the bounciness in the physics material to 0, so they really *shouldn't* be doing that. I think I know what's causing it, but the problem is that changing it would also make it much more difficult for blocks to fix properly in together, as the game has a sort of leniency in the blocks collision to allow blocks to fix together more easily. However, this can result in a tall tower having an uneven top due to the different collision shapes, even if it looks flat. Sorry you had issues with that. As for my high score, I've managed to get to around 2900. Thank you for playing the game!
Tricky towers is the best reference and you can learn a lot from it. Just be creative! Keep it up.
