BALANCE-PARKOUR by Arken

[raw]
made by Arken for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

天平界面.gif 屏幕截图 2021-10-05 022552.png

How To Play:

It's a normal side-scroller parkour with double jumps, but the whole level hangs on scales!

Every once in a while, the system will automatically add weights to the left tray, and all you can do is pick up the props in the level to increase or decrease the weights in the right tray.

Hope you can successfully maintain the balance and get 1000 points!

Controls:

Use the "A" and "D" keys to run left and right. Press spacebar to jump. You can jump twice!

Strange, but unique. I like the player character with that epic hat. The scale feature is very cool, but not exactly sure how it does affect to the game play.

I did not know what kind of games Asian people creates on Game Jams either until now, so now thank you (-i guess) for sharing this information to us...

At first, the game was not surprising. But when the scales appeared, the game changed and became very interesting

The scale is a fantastic design, and I admire how you design the jumping part tricky to manipulate. I love the gameplay, and well done! 后期有点实在跳不过去了,主要还是太手残了.jpg

Real good game, didn't know I could move left and right at first but then when it zoomed out it became really fun

I really liked it! The music and the very, very psychedelic graphics really put me into the zone with this quite hard platformer. The whole thing was a very well put together. My only complaint is that the movement with the character seemed really stiff and it was quite difficult to determine what was the effect of the weights to the movement of the character. At first I thought that the effect was only visual until the jump with both weights. But these are quite minor problems, really good work!

Loved the creepy ambiance of this game! That scale mechanic is a very interesting concept that absolutely deserves to be explored further, would love to see a full game explore its possibilities. Very well done! :D

:) Cool game! Very creepy vibe. The skewed platforming was an interesting idea! Great music!

Very cute and eerie, i liked it a lot actually, the idea of a platformer that goes tumbling to the sides is fun, i think it could've worked better if we spent more time interacting with the scales, maybe we could change weights with the mouse so we would have to divide our atention and would become kind of a multitask game? anyway, it's a very cool game and i liked it a lot, well done you guys!

Haha, nice game :D I feel like the character is perhaps moving a bit (too) slow and the jumps too low, but other than that, great entry !

The concept is okay but i feel like you missed the oportunity to make the scale really relevant, its just a visual thing that surprises you for the first time and thats it. I would have modified the character gravity when the scale leans to one side to make it more spicy.

I like the dark-ish tone and the surprise-element when it zooms out.

But the game itself feels a bit broken since some of the randomized(?) bigger leaps feel impossible to pull off since the character moves so slowly.

After multiple tries my highest score was 33.

It could be quite a fun little jumping game with some tweaking! And as others have said, it would be interesting to see the scale-mechanic explored further.

Unique is the right word here. Didn't see that rotating scale coming.
Definitely fits the theme.

Really unique idea! I wish it moved a bit faster, but I really enjoyed the spooky vibe when it zooms out to show the scale, and the music contributes to that mood well! I love the little sparkle effect on the double jump, that's a nice detail.

I love the aesthetic and the music. I'd buy a shirt with the main guy on it. I also loved the game play but i didn't get very far because i felt like the extremely hard jumps were being introduced too soon.

Really cool game idea, love that its a simple sidescroller until it isn't. Music is also really well done! good job!

The movement was a bit clunky, but the zoom out was really cool and I like the idea

I find the game a lot of fun, the music is very good for the atmosphere of the game of tension of falling off the scales at any moment and in general it fulfils the theme very well!

There is lots of well-made controls in this game; the player can still jump a few frames after stepping off a ledge, and the character gets to the next platform even if they land a tiny bit lower than the top edge. The music is great and the picture-in-picture effect with the scale helps in setting the mood.

Despite seeing the screenshot, I wasn't expecting that zoom-out. Such a unique take on a platformer and executed perfectly! (also the music slaps, good job!)

Really interesting idea! I found the movement a bit slow, and the score seemed kinda weird. I dunno if I'm just not noticing it, but it seemed to go up randomly, and very slow. I'd like to have reached 1000 but that seemed so out of reach, and like it'd take so long.

Very nice aesthetics, the music is also good. The gameplay is unique and the zoom-out is cool. I agree with what others have said before me, I think the movement could use some tuning.

Very interesting mechanic. I think you really need to develop this further. Graphical polish will make all the difference now that you're not constrained by a 72 hour timescale.
