Precarious Atoms by Turquoise Moon

[raw]
made by Turquoise Moon for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Electrons will jump up energy levels over time. Click on the electrons to send them back down a level. You earn more points the farther from the nucleus the electron is when clicked, but be careful. If the electrons get too far from the nucleus, the atom will become too unstable and explode! (totally scientifically accurate)

Very fun to play, the music only playing on one side desconcentrated me a bit but it's very good game!

This is very neat idea and the game gets pretty intense in hard mode, really put my aiming skills to a test! The only issue I have is that the game song only plays on the left side of my headphones and all the rest of the audio plays normally.

Nice, I learned a lot about science. Digging the 8-bit style, good art direction, the music, the sound effects and the visuals fit very well!

Creative! Some suggestion here: the electron is very hard to click on, not sure if that's intentional. Also, instead of having multiple difficulty levels, I think it's better to increase difficulty overtime.

the hard mode really gets challenging at some point and that was great. in my opinion, it only lacks some way to feedback the time left before an atom goes up a level

@brunozisman @daniel-malcher Oh that's weird. I hadn't tested it with headphones on. I have no idea why it would do that. Thanks for letting me know.

Wooo what an aim trainer! It's way more fun than any of the aim trainer games I've ever tried before, it kept me playing way longer than I probably should have. Wanted to pass 1,000 on hard. Hopefully that's a high score!

This is the kind of awesome game with a simple mechanic that shouldn't really be that fun, but you managed to make it fun somehow.

I think animations for the electrons going up and down rather than just teleporting would go a long way towards polish, if you wanna continue with the game.

@mhorth Wow that's crazy! I think I only ever got to around 600. I'd definitely say that's the current high score.

Interesting idea. Maybe some power ups? Or some other type of progression, because it gets repetitive after a while. Maybe don't make difficulties, but rather start easy and then increase difficulty. Anyway great entry I enjoyed it :smiley_cat:

Simple yet fun game! My feedback is the same as @kyboon, a dynamic difficulty system would be a great fit.

Interesting concept. It definitely fits the theme really well and the music was good. However, I did find that it was a little hard to click on such tiny moving sprites. Perhaps, you could increase the hitbox size.

Cool idea and very addicting gameplay! Music fits very well and wasn't annoying even after some time. I've played two rounds and it took a way longer, than i expected because it was really fun and i wanted to improve my aiming and timing. Well done @turquoise-moon. On easy i didn't encountered any problems but on hard i was a way to slow.

Beating 1000 on hard is really impressive @mhorth ;-)

Liked the simple, minimalist graphics. If there's one thing I'd change, it'd be to have difficulty scale up as you play so it doesn't just run forever (although I did appreciate having multiple difficulty levels, that was nice).

I liked the music as well, although I did encounter the issue where it only played on the left side.

I just love a good idea well done, and this game is exactly that. Excellent job! This was a lot of fun to play :-) wish I could've played more but the repeated clicking was risking to trigger my RSI 😅

Did you make the sound effects and music by the way? They're really good, but I don't see a rating option for them.

@xlambein I'm glad you liked it! I didn't make the music. It was made by Matt J Hart. There is a link to the music on the itch page of the game.
