RoboCompounds by kuggenhoffen

[raw]
made by kuggenhoffen for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

You are a rather unstable robot working in a chemical manufacturing compound. You are tasked to combine chemicals into compounds while avoiding to waste too many chemicals by dropping them or missing the hoppers.

Use WASD / arrow keys to move, space to interact and ESC to quit ( why would you though? :) )

  1. Get task to collect specific chemical beakers from the left platform in front of the "Chemical Order" desk.
  2. Collect correct beakers from the three hoppers and bring the beakers to the hopper at the top of the ramp.
  3. Get the beakers to the hopper (momentum is your friend :))
  4. Collect the combined chemical compound from the bottom of the hopper.
  5. Bring the compound to the hopper next to the "Chemical Order" desk. (Again use the momentum)
  6. Submit the compound by going on the right platform in front of the "Chemical Order" desk.
  7. Go back to step 1.

Update: Fixed score UI positioning bug.

First serious attempt at a LDJam game. Started late, slept well and did not have a lot of practice in the last year with Unity / Blender, Krita was completely new for me and I've never done music or sound effects.

Initial idea was to have the chemical beakers be unstable and different levels of volatility, ie. red beaker you have to move very slowly and not bump anything or it will explode.

Basics took too much time so I didn't get into the more intricate gameplay parts. All in all I'm still pretty satisfied with the result even though I missed compo deadline.

Tools used were: - Unity (Engine) - Blender (Models) - Krita (Textures) - www.beepbox.co (Music) - Audacity (Sound FX)

Great job, Lots of potential here.
I had trouble getting another blue vial after on fell off and it soft locked me.
Excellent use of the theme. I'd loved to see the later stages of the game you have planned !

Fun concept. Took me a bit to actually successfully get the beakers in. I had a bug where my robot disappeared after putting a beaker in the hopper. Had to restart the game to keep playing. Thanks for the game

Nicely done. Is there only one task at the moment? I submitted the first one and then it wouldn't give me another?

Mh, well there was missing a Menu just instandly throw in the Game and the Information about Controll is missing at the start. The Controll circel was a bit to much and was turn to fast as normal, dont know if that maked consciously.

I loved the music!!! Reminded me of the SimCity 2000 days...
did you make it yourself @kuggenhoffen ?

What a cool concept! I couldn't quite understand what I was supposed to do but moving around and throwing the chemicals around was super fun lol I also enjoyed the fx when something didn't work, an excellent touch.

Thanks to everyone for playing and all the comments and feedback!

@trusty Yeah you kind of have to use momentum to get the beakers in, this part could have used with some control to throw the beaker or something. Also I think I found the reason for the bug you encountered.

@malcolm When you successfully deliver a beaker you should be able to get new task from the left button. The combination and amount of beakers does change based on current score. I might have encountered similar bug at some point but couldn't reproduce to figure out what was wrong.

@bios3008 Thanks for comment, I think for next jam I'll do a quick menu to start with before getting too stuck with the gameplay mechanics :) The controls can feel a bit wonky especially when changing directions..

@lellalombardi Thanks, yes I made the music, very proud of it :)

@conduit Yeah, the instructions were a bit too vague on what to do. I should had more hints in game what to do rather than trying to explain in a wall of text.

As stated earlier: Instructions are not clear. Simple exclamation mark or question mark used as pickup would be more intuitive to tell people to grab it and check what it has to say. Dividing instructions into smaller parts (regarding given element, like separate thing for beaker dispenser, hopper, and delivery points). Also lack of controls to launch beakers to hopper is making things harder, cause constantly bashing my robot head to hopper in hope that it will cause beaker to get in is kinda hard. Other than that this game could be very addicting if you fixed issues and improved things :)

A little bit too much text the beginning, maybe a step by step tutorial that activates next step after first small goal is achieved would be more approachable. :) Overall I liked the wobblyness of the robot, easy controls and the simple and easy to learn mechanic.

Great entry! I liked the feel of the robot, and trying to balance the potions on your head.

This game is amazing, but very challenging. I was confused on what to do most of the time, and balancing potions was a nightmare, but over all 4/5. Loved the take on the theme and I hope you add more to this after the jam, I'd start with a tutorial in-game. Again, great game.

Hey, this was a great concept for a game!

![Untitled.png](///raw/6e6/2/z/4826c.png)

I liked the physics of the bot they were really well made with how the bottles are stacked on the head with the release of spacebar they come crashing down!.

One thing I would add would be a small sfx like a whurr noise or a bottle noise when you release the bottle - that way it's easier for a player to understand they can drop bottles as it took me a little bit to figure this out.

Thanks for making this, I enjoyed playing around in this game!

Cool game! But, a bit hard to control. In my opinion, the turning should be a bit slower.

On the marketing side, I may agree with the previous comment, but not entirely on the security side, the packaging should not only be beautiful, but also comply with everything necessary for safety, such as chemical companies must provide safety data sheets and there are even entire companies that help in their work https://sdsmanager.com/us/ !
