In a world, far in the future, where petrol cars are a distant memory and there's no more lithium left for batteries or whatever, a new form of transportation has emerged. The Wind Runner. You're task in this game is to pilot the Wind Runner around the map, delivering packages to various mailboxes.

Controls

  • A and D control the vehicle orientation
  • Q and E control the sail orientation
  • Once you're near a mailbox, you'll be prompted to press R to deliver the package
  • Follow the arrows to the mailboxes, the arrow pointing to the closest mailbox is highlighted

Additional Information

You need to position the sail correctly in the wind to move in the direction you want. To go up wind, try zig-zagging. The wind will change direction over time too.

Edit: Here's an image describing how to operate the Wind Runner in various scenarios. WindRunnerMoveInstructions.png

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where the R prompt wouldn't go away.
  • Fixed a bug where the wind speed wasn't set on the particles correctly.

Nice game, it takes a while to understand how to use the wind :)

This is a cool idea for a game. I think the main problem is that i dont really know how wind works with a sail :\ though i did kinda figure it out. I think the graphics are pretty nice too and the wind sound is nice, its always a little hard to find a good one that doesnt get annoying

Figuring out how to use the wind currents is a bit hard, but once you do, it's quite an innovative game!

Did you program it so the wind is always against your destination? It seems so, haha! Cool concept. A little bit frustrating. I imagine it would feel great after a lot of practice to be able to cruise all over.

Fun little game! I thought it would be very handy for those who had been out on the sea, as I found handling the sails to be a skill

I loved the mood of the game, especially the wind noises and effects like the moving leaves and trees. For a game based around the wind it works well. I found it pretty unforgiving and frustrating when the place you need to go is directly into the wind... some tuning there would be nice to make it so that it's always possible to progress?

Nice mood, super relaxing. Understanding how to move is kinda hard. Probably an arrow that points in the direction you are accelerating would help, mostly when you are going against the wind. Well done :-)

I enjoyed the movement! I feel like an indicator of how the forces add up at the beginning would be great just to help me get myh bearings. It was also frustrating trying to get to the mailboxes on the left because of the river, it seemed to never end!

Cheers!

Fascinating concept! I'd always wanted to learn about how sails work- this is a great demo to learn a little bit about that! Took a little while to get used to, but I'm glad for the effort!

Frustrating to play but a cool game!

Felt like the sail and player movement should be separated; but I can see arguments to be made both ways.

As others have said, the sail mechanics are a bit foreign to people who've never sailed before. The explanations you gave are a good attempt but I think it'd be better to try and teach this in-game with some metrics and bars to help the player understand the relation between sail rotation and wind direction.
