Lizzie's Lucky Potion Shop by celia14
Play it safe or press your luck to brew up the perfect potion! The ingredients you choose impact your chances of hitting the jackpot... or losing everything in a potion explosion!
⭐⭐⭐
How to Play
You'll choose ingredients for each potion you want to make. The ingredients impact the chance of success or failure during brewing, and how much you get paid for the final potion.
- Choose the potion recipe you want to make. Each recipe calls for certain types of ingredients - add them by clicking on them.
- Each ingredient has a cost and also three symbols. Those symbols populate three slot reels that are rolled randomly after the potion is brewed, which takes some time.
- Choose your ingredients wisely. When the slots are rolled, more stars means a more valuable potion - but if you land on three X's, your potion explodes and you get nothing!
- Try out different potions and see how much money you can make. Can you can manage to make at least one of each potion at each star level?

⭐❌⭐
Known Issues
- No music or sound.
- Slot spinning animation is buggy.
- No indication of the end of the game. If you get all the checkmarks, you win!
Post-jam bug fixes
- Previous potion's price and stars no longer showing on exploded potions.
⭐ After you've rated, play the post-jam version with music, sound, and extra unstable potions here! ⭐

I do have a few nitpicks with the jackpot feature though. Maybe a more skill-based phase to determine the quality of the potion (e.g. stirring or brewing) would have made the experience more enjoyable.
Nevertheless, I found myself going bankrupt trying to get a 3-star slime potion recipe while my friend laughed from the sidelines very enjoyable.
Great work!
The mechanic is pretty well executed even if there's a couple flaws but nothing too dramatic.
I really loved the character so I did this

Unfortunately, I think this falls a bit short for me as a jam game. The brew timers, while thematic, don't serve the gameplay. It actually detracts from it, making the player wait for no reason other than theme. And then after the timer, you still have to wait for the randomized roll animation to finish? Perhaps if audio made it into the game, this would be less frustrating to sit through? But as it is, it just takes too long to do anything meaningful. And when you finally get an engine going to make better potions, there isn't a whole lot of strategy or gameplay decisions beyond "pick good/bad ingredients" to get your desired results.
I really like this idea and I'd would definitely try it again if you put some more time into a fuller release. As is, it falls a bit short for a jam game. There's a lot of potential here, especially if you developed into the idle/incremental genre.
Congrats on making this for a jam. The character animation is superb :)
I never felt compelled to brew multiple types of potions in the cauldrons. The nature of the jackpot spins meant I could arrange the ingredients in such a way as to try to get multiple star values of the same potion at once. That said, I'm not sure if that was your intention with including 3 cauldrons, but with the countdown timers, I assumed you were wanting the player to have different types of potions going at once, which I didn't feel incentivized towards doing.
That's the only real constructive feedback I have. Otherwise it's fun and very pretty look at. Nice work!
@crazyrems... That Lizzie is so cute!! I love her energy, it's amazing. Thank you for drawing her! If you ever post that on Twitter please let me and @rose know so we can retweet and show it off.
What did you use to make this, btw?
