Commentary
This was a first game I made in Godot. It’s a great engine and already prefer it to Game Maker 2, which I used to use. However, I still had to learn many things during this Ludum Dare, which would now make me significantly more productive. I originally wanted to have branching dialogs, but I ended with such a mess of a spaghetti code, that I was unable to debug and fix it in a reasonable time, so I had to decide for one-side dialogs only. Maybe next time! Known issues: * Sometimes the dialog abruptly ends when you skip the last text of the dialog by pressing Space.
Tools used.
If you want to open the game, you just need Godot 3.4.
- Sounds made with BFXR;
Voices made in FL Studio using VST Speek 3.
Most of the visual assets were created in Inkscape, all of them are in .svg files.
- In some cases, Aseprite was used, projects are in their .ase files.

The weapons should have keyboard shortcuts, spend a lot of time moving the mouse between buttons and earth :)
Oh yeah, the whole story reminds me of the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
well done :)
The gameplay itself was a bit confusing - it took me a while to realize the different buildings were just different attacks, and even then I had no indication of what was the difference between them. I seemed to be barely able to affect the meteor's speed, and it only ever really changed due to story events.
Nevertheless, it was still a very amusing entry!
@rex64 thank you for playing! That’s pretty impressive though, I usually go to like 45 or so. :) Rated your game as well!
@smiley oh no! After 34 hours of working, I was simply copying the markdown text from my previous entry and forgot to remove the wooden log mention. It’s from the other game, don’t look for wooden logs in space. Sorry about that! :D Great suggestion with keyboard controls, thank you for that. And for playing! Rated your game as well!
@frogman I wanted to fix the dialog going over game over screen, but I was out of time. They barely affect the meteor speed, but they do. But can’t stop the inevitable. :) I will rate your game once I am on Windows, I am stuck on Mac now. Or if you manage to make Mac/HTML5 build, do let me know!
Like someone mentioned, after losing the dialogue keeps showing up and the days keep on going up. I know it's a bug but it was kind of nice to see it, because I died really fast haha. Got to about 45.
@moonblast glad you liked the game! I will rate yours on weekend, I am not on Windows now and don’t have any Windows machine handy, sorry for that. But I will keep it in mind. :)
@tosmaster glad you liked the dialog! At least that one year of work as a 2nd line IT support was good for something. :) Rated your game back, absolutely amazing one!
Pacing was a little slow but that was the only issue I found :)
(I also tried so hard to find a log haha)
@weirdybeardyman you’re definitely right about the feedback. Will keep in mind for the next time. :) And I definitely love it, much better than Game Maker and quicker than Unity. I am surprised by how many Godot games I see this year, I was used to seeing Unity all day back in previous LDs. :)
@conradoclark so sorry for that! I need to proofread better next time!
@aka-black-dog thank you for the comment. I will play your game on the weekend, because I am stuck on Mac now and I will be able to get on Windows by then.
@adobobo definitely bug, but it’s a blessing in disguise, because it means you don’t need to play it again. :) And yeah, aliens should think about the mental well being of their workers! This cannot be sustainable!
The graphics were sufficient for the purpose.
I only had simple sounds. In the credits it looked like maybe there should have been music and voice.
Great job making a game in 48 hours!
Good stuff :8ball:
