NeedyMonsters by Snory

made by Snory for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

You are in charge of shelter where you are trying to keep your pets as long as you can. But it seems it is inevitable to sold them or your shelter will be ruined.

GamePlay.png

Quick tips for these who are lazy to read info in game:

Conditons for win/loose - you need to have all six spots with monster on the level of 12 - if you will have negative score > end

Controls - in order to do any action with the monster YOU HAVE TO SELECT IT - click on plus icon to add monster - press E to see info about monster

Logic - there are three phases for each monster:

a) need phase - you have to satisfy need in bubble with satisfier from the satisfier stock - if you dont have satisfier, you can press S or rabbit icon to move to next need

b) evaluation phase - your peace time - can be skipped by clicking on clock icon

c) sell phase - you can sell your monster if it is too much for you

Around LVL 5 monster will stop giving you free satisfiers to the stock. It is a moment where you have to balance between selling monsters, feeding new once (which will provide free resources) and taking care of the bigger once. Of course, there is multiple ways how to win.

I like the idea of balancing the costs and weighing when to sell and buy items and pets. Is there a downside to not selling animals at all or selling them too early? Other than that I enjoyed the laid-back nature of this game.

Hello @thedevatlas thanks for the test run! As it is now after "certain" level of creature they will stop providing you free resources to the satisfier stock and will demand more and more. So if you dont have enough money in this phase of the game, you need to sell the monster or it will burn all your resources.

At least that was the idea.

It's a nice looking game, pretty laid back. It took me a really long time to figure out what I as actually doing but otherwise not bad.

So bright and shiny! Like you colors, and I find it easy to understand what I have to do without reading any tips or tutors - it's rare here)

The look and feel for this game is great and relaxing though it gets stressful later, lmao

Really like the mood of this game. Managing the needs of every creature is somehow "relaxing" even though your slowly overwhelmed by tasks. Well done.

I had a few remarks:
- I didn't understand at first why I had free resources every now and then, I think it needs to be clearer in game. (if you continue the game further, maybe each creature type can give you a specific resource so you can have a strategy about wich creature to keep/sell).
- The "info" screen is a really nice touch! if you do a "typing" effect on the text however, I'd recommand to align the text to the left instead of centering it, as it makes reading more tedious while the text is appearing.

Good work! Thank you for the game :)

Hello @tombuston

Thank you for the feedback.

Each creature in fact give you a specific resoures from its own category up to level 5 in average. I think that even if the info somehow provide "hints" about it I agree I should make this much more clearer and visible so everybody understand why to sell/look at info/buy and etc and create its own strategy.

Thanks!

Visuals and graphics are quality.

Ooh fun and chaotic, I like that! The graphics are cute, the music is nice but a bit repetitive in my opinion. The info button was not that useful to my, I'm sorry. The text went too fast and the typeset was not really readable for big chunks of text. I think the typeset is great for other UI elements :-)

I like this style and mood! Pretty visuals. A little more clarity in what is going on (i.e. a guided "tutorial") would help, but maybe that's just me. Took me a bit to understand what was going on. Info text went really fast and was hard to read.

This was fun! The info screen displayed the text WAY to fast though, which left me a bit confused on some fundamentals like how to sell the monsters, or where the free items kept coming from. Art style was very nice, and was pretty addictive, keeping me play longer than I'd have expected!

I liked it! Although sadly The upper and bottom part of the UI was cut off :(
Which really kept me from knowing how much money I have lol, I think if I would have been able to see that I would have known my way around the game a bit better :3

But I like organisation games like that :D
Also props to the Start Screen and the logo ;)

The music was cute too :)

Oh the ingame tutorial!! Too quick! ;) No one reads that fast ^^

Good job on finishing your game :))

6800 was my score.

I think this is a cool concept. I figured it out my first run through. It is an interesting management game. It would be cool to build it out further and have more graphics and animations for taking care of the monsters. Almost like a monster zoo management clicker game. It was entertaining!

Cute game. It's easy to play. I think you can make something interesting out of it.
I would maybe add some events with animals. For example: "madness", when they eat a lot, but also give some useful things.

The authors are great fellows!

I like the art style its sweet and simple :)
The tutorial text/sentences went by a bit to fast, I would have needed a bit more time to read.
The fundamentals of the game are easy to learn though, I mostly knew what I had to do even without tutorial ^^

Really interesting idea, I like the shop system and the inventory system, I think the gameplay has a good layer of complexity to it too! I think the game may have needed to have an interactive tutorial, but apart from that was a cool concept and was well executed! Overall, great game!

The artwork in this game is really good, and the concept is fine, virtual pet games are fun. It really just feels like a bunch of clicking around to me, though. Do you think that the number of different resources could be reduced? Having so many just creates a lot of work for my eyes, looking around for the right ones. You should also make sure that the window on the itch page is large enough to include the entire game window, since it cuts off the top as is.

@theunusualart, @black-flag , @bastilo thank you!

@quinn-patrick thank to you too..., I had hard time to tame the resolution. Will learn something about it for the next game jam to avoid it.

A pretty game with nice music, but it takes a lot of clicking. One way to make the game more friendly would be to allow players to drag resources on the monsters that needed them instead of clicking the monster and then the resource.

Nice concept, the game gets a bit overwhelming quite fast though, it takes some time to get used to. Otherwise a great entry, good job!
