The Wendigo by Mothdan

Made it! Only had 2 days for this Jam entry but polished it as best I could. Web Player version is now up.

Use Ancient Technology to harvest lumber, create campfires to keep The Wendigo away at night and heal yourself, craft vehicles, harvest obsidian from the island and kill The Wendigo with your obsidian spear cleansing the land once and for all!

How to play: Classic FPS Controls (WASD, F / Mouse to attack, Space to Jump)

To start a campfire: Collect 2 logs, 2 sticks and 2 rocks, weapon #2 will be unlocked, equip weapon #2 and hold down the attack button rubbing your fire sticks together until the campfire is spawned.

Chop trees with axe to collect logs
Chop logs with axe to make sticks
Pick up rocks along the waterside
2 logs, 2 sticks and 2 rocks = Campfire (Weapon #2)
Feed your campfire with logs to keep it from going out at night
Time spent by the campfire will heal you
At night, monsters will come out
Only a campfire can protect you from the Wendigo
Build the tree car for faster travel
Build the boat to travel to the island
Hit the obsidian rock on the island to create an obsidian spear
Kill the wendigo with the spear to win the game!

Bug Fixes since submission (as allowed per rules):
Killing Wendigo now plays the happy game over music and allows you to replay
Some trees moved around so they can be harvested for lumber
Enemies will still follow/attack you even if you're riding the Log Car

There are still some more bugs worth fixing that I might not get to so let's call this the final version

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

Haha, that was fun. The graphics were solid. The game play was engaging, the music was good. Sound effects were good. I have no complaints. Thanks for a great game!

Scary! The spiders were pretty annoying since I had to keep running away from them during the day while I was hoping to chop logs in peace. Ambitious for 48 hours, nice job!

Pretty good game! The graphics are okay, although the enemies don't exactly match the 3D models, and the axe is much less detailed than the trees.

Sadly I didn't finish the game because I used all the trees on the campfire, and then I couldn't build the boat. :(

The music is pretty good and the sound effects do actually kind of make it tense. Eventually I found the scream to be quite hilarious though :)

The tree car was a lot of fun :D

Overall nice job!

This is an ok game! You got a lot done in the given time.
The sounds are fairly good. Gameplay is also fairly good

But stuff like that fact that the monsters are 2d and the rest is 3d doesn't make sense.

I found the boat was a little buggy when getting in out on the island.

I found it was kinda hard to attack.

Also I got stuck under the campfire once.

But you did get a lot done for the given time and I did manage to kill the WENDIGO!

Night feels very scary, I couldn't see anything.

I got the resources, but couldn't find the place to build my fire. It would be better if I could craft stuff wherever.

I like the concept but certainly a bit too much for a games jam.

Controls were a little clunky, feedback wasn't great when chopping wood/sticks.

Graphically there was no consistency and scale was bad (giant spiders) I understand using other peoples assets in a games jam but when the style of assets (realistic trees mixed with spiders drawn on a plane) are so jarring it makes everything feel less polished, just advice for the future.

Good attempt though (:

Nice game! I included it in my compilation video series of Ludum Dare 36, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/ZHYBCFbdIKA

Please, please, PLEASE lock the mouse cursor inside the window for a FPS game! I also got stuck in the campfire and couldn't get back out. Not being able to see a lot of anything due to the lighting even during the day wasn't great either.

I applaud the ambition, and the scope of what has been done, but I would strongly recommend making things a little smaller in scope and allowing some more time for testing and fixing things like this in future.
