Wait For It ! by Forgin Bits

Today was Mr Prizondoor's 50th birthday at the Wait For It Restaurant ! Chef Linguini had prepared a special cake for the grumpy man ! As the waiter, all you had to do was serve the masterpiece... But as luck would have it, something terrible happened...

You slipped on a banana peel. And then all you could do was delay the inevitable...

Wait For It is a wacky and weird Wario Ware inspired game, where you try to go through as many quick challenges as possible to save and serve your beloved cake. As time goes on, the pace increases.

This is my Ludum Dare 50 Compo submission. The theme is : Delay the Inevitable !

Controls : SPACEBAR and W/A/S/D or ARROW KEYS.

How to play : you will go through a series of mini games and try to go as far as possible while their difficulty slowly increases. The mechanics differ for every level, so you have to pay attention to the instruction for each mini game ! You start with 5 lives, so you can fail 5 mini games in total, then it's game over. Good luck !

Art inspired by the great works of Stéphane ESCAPA !

Art, music and SFX all fit the vibe of the game perfectly, and the leaderboard makes the game extra addictive. (I might have to come back to make sure I'm still on it ;) )
Fantastic compo entry, you should be really pleased with this one!
The graphics are nice, the music is not annoying. There is even a small plot.
All in all, a pretty decent game!
Super solid entry!
Loved the art style and overall humor
Great humor, very solid art and fun gameplay, really enjoyed it! Would be fun if you expanded upon it, but it's fun as is as well.
Nice to see that you also made a WarioWare inspired game! We are at least 3 now in this LD!
Great work!
I loved every second i spent on your game. The mini games are fun ,the art is quite good, the music is not bad at all and the FX are well made and fun (I loved the little falling candle voices :candle: ).
A really solid entry !
\- ditam (cake salvation score 8)
The art and style of everything fit well together and the intro was super cute! Good entry
Some minor feedback that could make the game even better:
- Small pause countdown before the minigame starting to give the player time to get accustomed with the controls and the environment he's gonna be in. In the dodge in the bananas mini game I felt like I didn't have time to look where the bananas were before they started chasing me so I ended up losing most of my lifes there.
- Making the minigames end faster if you succeed/fail, for example in the light the candles minigame you have to wait for the timer to end even if you've lit all the candles. Similarly for the dodge the bananas minigame you have to wait for the timer to end even if you've lost.
These are just minor things that didn't take away much if at all from the main experience and I am sure that they would've been added if not for the time constraint. Overall great work on the game!
I honestly am having trouble coming up with any actual constructive feedback. You absolutely nailed what you set out to do, your art style is adorable, the game is proudly French, the music is pleasant and doesn't ever get monotonous, each of the minigames is interesting, and I always appreciate when a game that takes a silly concept seriously. The goal of each minigame, and the controls, were always very clear. Honestly the only suggestion I have is to make the "dodge the bananas" minigame just a little easier because I failed that one every time, and the "light the candles" one a little harder because I always had lots of time left. That said, having different difficulty levels is absolutely fair for a wario-ware style game, so even that is not really an objectively good improvement.
I just really loved your game.
BRAVO!
Some of the microgames are made harder than they should be by the fact that they begin immediately, rather than giving you a second or two to get ready and/or read the instructions if you haven't played it before. On more than one occasion I immediately failed a microgame before I even understood what I was meant to be doing. I failed the "Dodge the bottles" minigame every single time because I was never able to get the hang of the controls, and because I was failing it so quickly, I never had the chance to practice and get better at it.
I still greatly enjoyed this, though, it's a very fun take on the theme. Good job!
The art is fine and the sound effects are great.
Some mini games are really easy and some are really hard
Also the highscore was a nice touch
Very fun to play, I really enjoyed it. I didn't get far (9 Points Highscore), but it was fun anyways.
You even managed to put in a leaderboard while, I'll repeat it, making this for compo
The graphics were really charming and sweet, I loved the introduction with the comic panel style!
Sometimes games were hard because it was lagging a bit, but that was probably because I was on my laptop, I will try it on my decent machine later :)
I feel like upon successfully managing a step a littl player feedback would have been nice, you know how deprived of reassurement we all are :P
But other than that - a very polished feeling entry for a gamejam! Especially for a 1 man job! Congrats!
The timing on being between start of mini-game and first obstacles could be a bit short for some causing some quick fails but overall the game feels well balanced in difficulty as well.
The cohesion of warioware gameplay and aesthetic of the game brings the game together well and wraps it up into a fun game for this jam!
Overall, you did great work for this entry. It took a few tries, but I was able to get my name on the board tying for 3rd place. Yay, me.

The only one I sometimes fail and feel is not my fault is the one with the falling candles (specially when those in the opposite ends fall in sequence.
It's been a while since I played a WarioWare-type game (I think my last one was WarioWare: Touched!...?) and I forgot how much fun they could be. The real limiter with a game like this made for a jam is just how many minigames they need to be interesting. I'd say this one definitely could have done with more, but that--again--I'm impressed that you even got as many done as you did!
The graphics and music obviously weren't the main focus, but even so, they were consistent and didn't distract at all from the gameplay, so I'd say they did their job well!
Really well done!
Great job on everything, the game is fun, beautiful, easy to play, it seems like you balanced your work very well even if you put so much in every aspect of the game!
Awesome job ✨
