3 Minutes to Die by sillyman987

[raw]
made by sillyman987 for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Your name is Agent Marcov. You have been poisoned by Horken agents in an attempt to get you out of the way. Defeat all the Horken agents all while you collect clocks to reduce the poisons effects. If you delay the inevitable and manage to end Horken's rule over the world, you WIN! But if your timer runs out or a Horken agent captures you, you LOSE.Screenshot 2022-04-04 204255.png

Neat little game. Keep up a good work, it's great that you managed to do your game till the finish of this short game jam. Also you have my personal like for using construct 2 - I loved using it before. Thank you for the submission!

Really liked the game! The mechanic of the dash and the time deadline works really well. I would be nice to be able to see the cooldown on the dash in order to time it really good, but that's a minor thing! Congrats!

Nice simple mechanic but you get it to do a lot of work. Plenty of variety in the level layout meant having to use the dash in subtly different ways. The music was good, although it did start out a little annoying it got much better as it went on. In the end a solid entry.

Good stuff :8ball:

I love the audio! and the creepy oldschool graphics gives it a lot of charm!

Cute game, a bit bare bones but that normal for LD games I guess. The graphics were nice though

Cool game! Really enjoyed the graphics. I did feel like the collisions with the spikes weren't quite right, it seemed like I died when I didn't think I hit them. Overall, well done!

Pretty fun! Audio was nice (although I was so bad I never really got to hear it play out) and dash cooldown was sometimes frustrating because you'd press space some milliseconds too early and end up walking into the enemy.

Great job!

A good game overall, but the collisions are really unforgiving haha

As already said, I miss a way to visually see my cooldown, or at least some other feedback for when another dash was ready.

Good job!

Have to agree, apparently my expectations for when I would have a dash did not meet reality, so some indication would be nice. I do like the twists on standard platforming (only attack is a dash, you must kill all the badguys), and the music was pretty solid

@nicksmaddog @Glacian @Chaoseiro @Fromage I didn't get a chance to add a bar for the dash cooldown, sorry about that.

@sillyman987 No worries! Just a suggestion, I know there's plenty of stuff in ours we couldn't get to!

Damn those Horken Agents! They Horkend their last Hork with me!
Nice game! Although I died a lot when the spikes came into play haha

Agreed with the other comments, the collisions are a little funky, but the movement does feel pretty smooth. The controls are floaty enough not to feel mechanical but tight enough not to feel like I'm having to wrestle with them. The music was nice and atmospheric. Good stuff.

Fun idea and platforming. I think it could have used some checkpoints as you go along or improved collisions as others have said. Good submission though!

Neat little game. Had a lot of atmosphere, the player and enemies were visually simple but still had a lot of character, and the music was pretty cool. The main thing for me is that the dash didn't feel super great; I think a) because you don't seem to move any faster when dashing than when walking, and b) for some reason your momentum gets set to zero when the dash finishes, which felt jarring. Since the dash is the main mechanic it kinda limited my enjoyment of actually playing the game.

Nice game mechanics, but it's to difficult for me. I gave up after 20min - 30min. I would have liked checkpoints. (Or maybe I was to bad to reach one)

@Xerxeres I thought about adding checkpoints, but unfortunately the time ran out before I had the chance.

Cute, simple and hard to master, as it should. Great entry! A view thoughts:

- I felt the dashing was a bit incosistant. Somtimes I though I could dash, but the character did not dash so I died. Is there a cooldown in dashing?
- The use of voice-over was a bit incosistant. The welcome and 'click to play' voiceover was very nice, but then I would expect it everywhere. Also in the game-over screen for instance
- Incorperating the game-length in the title is clever. I had about 10 minutes before I have to start cooking. So I was looking for a game that looked like a short and sweet game. Your's was perfect for that

Good job!

Imagine dying right near the end, tilting out, and then spending like 8 minutes trying to make it back there. Yup, it's that kind of game. I felt like it needed checkpoints until I realized how short it actually was. It's difficult to move with precision since the controls are so floaty, but once I nailed down how to airdash the correct direction it all came together. The dash effects feel pretty good. The timer is very loose, to say the least. I finished with more than 3:40 on the clock which is more than I started with.

My only issue was check points. I got to the end about 3 times then died then had to spend like 5 minutes getting back to where I was. Also I feel like the spike colliders could be smaller to make it seem more fair, cos the amount of times I just brushed past the edge of a spike and died is way too high. Other than that it was a nice game.

Nice game, good pixel art, especially on the ground
