The graphics and SFXs are lovely and the game feels responsive.
It fits the theme but there's not a lot to do here, maybe some other interactions would have been cool
Great work here @roboolet
I thought maybe I wasn't getting enough feedback about what was happening. After I got the fire going I didn't know what to do but stand in the house. Then I would go outside looking for something to do and the white death would come for me. I see you zoom in when it gets cold but some other way to know your temperature might have helped. Also, some additional activity to perform would give some depth.
The style and mood were the standouts for me. Great job making a game in 48 hours!
Gameplay:
You are creating a kind of depressing athmosphere by the artstyle, the absence of music and the fact, that the player realizes pretty fast, that this is the end. Being able to carry only one item underlines this fact. At some point in time you'll lose ability to recover your axe and you have to sit in the house until the fire wents out.
The game forces you to find the best strategy to survive the longest, by chosing which tree to chop down and which logs to carry and take and when to drop the axe. That adds a layer of replayability.
I can only encourage everyone who reads this to try to explore a little bit ;)
Some kind of timer could add an additional layer of replayability, as it would be nice to know how long i survived when trying different strategies.
The controls are straight forward and easy to understand.
It's a short game but it still worth a shot!
Graphics:
I really like the change of visuals, when entering/leaving the house
The fire (while burning) looks cozy and warm and also visually is one of the only color sources in the game, which adds to the athmosphere that this is the only safe place around.
In general we have a neat art style here.
Audio:
The storm starts weak but rages over time, that adds nicely to the atmosphere
You have proven to show some love for sounds, when adding different types footsteps for inside and outside
2. the game is fun! I love the atmosphere you created and the character's animation, the sound design is great too! I did struggle a bit in the beginning because i couldn't carry my axe along the wood but now that i think about it, it makes the gameplay more engaging.
This is a great entry and goes along the jam's theme excellently
The game looks simple but I noticed a lot of careful detail and love was added to it! Especially the sounds like the footsteps, the ever-strengthening wind, and even those crows. Really gave this game a fitting mood. The stylized snow was great too, along with the very unique way of indicating to the player that they are getting cold. Fits the theme quite well too!
All in all, I am impressed with this entry, you did a great job!
This was my first work that had any amount of emotional energy, so i'm glad the mood came across to everyone well. I don't want to promise anything, but an extended post-jam version seems like it would have an audience.
- Since you are going for minimalistic GUI (or more of on GUI at all, which I actually like!), don't add some meter for fire strength, but maybe add few drawing of the fire, for example: just smoldering wood - don't give any warm, a little fire - still not enough warm and then a proper big fire that warms the player. That way it will feel immersive and consistent with the rest of the game, and the player would have clear feedback of what is going on.
- More interaction would be great. The next obvious mechanic is food. Some deers, rabbits to hunt with an axe. And for example, after that you need to bring them back to the first to cook them (maybe even add a cauldron over the fire). You can signal hunger with sound effects, I guess.
- Maybe some danger to run from, wolves or bears.
These are just suggestions. The game is cool as it is. Pun intended :P
