Monster Dungeon Defenders by TheCrittersCove

[raw]
made by TheCrittersCove for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Card like game where you keep adventurers at bay as long as possible. The longer the adventurers are delayed by your monsters, the more mana is gained. Buy monster cards using mana. Gather a large enough army and get the dungeon up to S rank!

Notes: Unfortunately there is a bug that will count too many adventurer KOs, giving the player S rank prematurely. Also, there isn't really enough rounds at the moment to easily achieve S rank, so maybe that's for the better. Sadly, music didn't make it in time.

Feel free to give feedback and mention any bugs you encounter. Thank you advance to any who play!

This is a cool concept I haven't really seen, but there's not a ton of depth. Honestly if there was a bit more than just looking at what units you have that are strong against the adventurer that just spawned, it could be a fun game to just open while listening to a podcast.

Really fun concept for a card game, reminds me of the card game Boss Monster.
Would love to see some more art and effects for cards and maybe an easier way of getting monster cards between rounds.
All in all a great game entry you guys should be very proud <3

I typically don't care for these kinds of games, but I found yours easy to get into and appealing. Just simply having choices and rewards at the end of the round kept me engaged! Sorry I'm not seasoned with the genres so much to give more thoughts. The graphics were consistent and effective, and since it was very easy to control (and fast to progress) I liked it.

This game is quite accessible, though it could use a little more depth. It looks cute and the design is clear and visually appealing, and is actually quite fun to play. I think a little more clarity in terms of fighting damage would help, it happens a little fast, but otherwise it's great, well done

I had a good time. Took a minute to figure out and then it was cool to play well.

I enjoy card-like games.

This was fun. I like the ideas, though I think with some minor tweaks there can be more opportunity for strategic decisions. With it as a pure damage and weakness combat system, there isn't much room for any strategy beyond getting the big creatures and getting a spread. I liked the art, and thought that it did a good job at being very readable in terms of UI. Great entry!

It was pretty fun! I feel like the game is lacking a lose condition though, it just goes on forever while you get more cards.

This game is fun and very easy to get into. As others have mentioned, this has potential and could be pretty cool if there were more strategic depth. The art style is very cute!

This is a very simple but well executed game. The idea of going through the same gameplay loop, not with the objective of winning, but of gaining as much currency in order to buy stuff to help you through the gameplay loop is a good idea. The graphics are cute, and the audio serves its purpose. I do feel like the gameplay could benefit from some depth, as currently their isn't much to do beyond buying and placing cards. The lack of a lose condition doesn't help much, either, as it causes a lack of urgency in the gameplay. However, it takes a good amount of time to implement and balance a game with mechanics such as this, and as this, this is a well-balanced and fun game. Nice work.

Nice game. Simple, clean graphics. Easy to learn gameplay.

Had one problem where no adventurers spawned, so I was just waiting for something to happen.

Good effort, well done.

Game is quite fun, but IMO gets repetitive after a while. I wish adventurers would already be present when the round starts. Other than that, well done.

Shortly after reaching C rank, he stopped sending enemies into the game. I don't know if it was supposed to end like this. But the gameplay was very good and I liked the way the game was made. Congratulations!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to rate my game and comment! I honestly wasn't expecting such positive feedback.

@thulyo-araujo Unfortunately you most likely hit the final round. I ran out of time during the jam to properly test how many rounds were needed. But thank you for pointing out what rank that typically occurs at. And thank you for playing of course!

Saw your post and came here to vote! I played till I get the S rank, overall I liked the idea, but I was missing the soundtrack. If you would like to take a look at what my team did can find it in my profile, hope you get to 20 votes!

Nice job! I was having a good time, looked over, and was already at S rank. I wish it had more complex interactions and more tiers of cards, though.

Super cute little game! I didn't see one of the cards in the screenshot during my playthrough, which was kind of sad. I wanted the level of cards available to grow as I did! I really really really liked the graphics, a few little animations in a post-jam version would make it perfect. I also ran into the issue with the final round but overall great entry!
