Behold_MainScreen.png

Behold is the name of an old Keep that's full of Beholders, unsurprisingly. It's also home for you, the Player, if only for a brief moment. You have been cursed, and grim fate awaits you... Quite literally in fact, you might die in about 25 seconds from the start of the game.

doublekill4.gif

Fast paced FPS combat with beholders, ticking death clock and choices that have fun consequences. Slash your way through the keep, collect Skulls to keep the curse at bay and change the rules of the game. Should you ever succumb to adversity, remember you can always come back - for a price.

Controls 1. WASD to move around 2. Mouse to look around 3. Left click to swing your weapon 4. Right click to throw it at an enemy

Looks really cool! Wish I could play, but I can't do Windows :sob:

This one seems really really polished. graphics are well done. my only gripe with the game was that i could only choose one thing to upgrade after death even though my skull count was enough to get them all.

@smash-city that's a bummer, but thank you for the kind words! We usually do WebGL, but this time the build was super broken... Might have it up in the post-jam!

The screenshots look good, but I haven't progressed beyond this screen.![изображение_2022-04-05_141422947.png](///raw/2e5/b2/z/4c5cf.png)

I really enjoyed playing this! The difficulty scaling felt pretty natural, and overall I had a really good time with it! I couldn't get past the boss; seemed like no matter how much I hit it it would never die. The constant jumping card mixed with the low gravity card also seemed to make the game much more difficult than it was before.

@lisichka Thanks for the heads-up! It looks like our menu might be having trouble with some resolutions. I uploaded a build where you can press Enter to progress if you're willing to give that a try!

@Monado Thank you for the kind words and yeah, the boss needs some love(and balancing, and better code...) in the post jam :D

It was epic, it's probably the coolest and most ready-made game I've met on LD

The most fully developed 3d game I've seen for LD50!

Cool game, simple and well done idea, really liking the graphics. I don't know how, but I got killed by something and the screen turned black - couldn't do anything anymore. Also, it'd be nice if there was some indicators for numeric health & thrown weapon location, as I sometimes had problems locating it and it also stayed there once when I picked it up. Overall though, great job for making this in 72h

I like the presentation and the graphics and the overall level design is pretty nice, but I really feel like many of the upgrades are too much of a downgrade in terms of losing control. For example I managed to pick both low gravity and everybody jumps so the final boss was completely unreachable because it was just floating in the roof and I couldn't control my jumping. I also feel like having to pick up my torch after throwing it made me not want to use the throw at all because it was such a loss of time to do all that instead of just going in swinging like crazy.

Nevertheless good job on your game!

There some super fun ideas in this game! The graphics are really **great** for a LD game, sounds FX are good enough, and the music is nice too (even if you did'nt make it)! Controls works quite fine. Overall, the game needs more balancing and failsage: as other as said, some combinations of bonus/malus almost break the game.

Is there a proper ending? I've beaten the boss twice, but each time I've died just after, so it may not have triggered it. Or there is'nt an ending, but that could be a nice addition to make it feel like a more polished game.

I'm pretty impressed by a lot of things in it, and it's definitevely super fun! Good job!

@chocolat-endive Thanks for the feedback!
Due to time restrictions, we weren't able to fully balance everything, so some weird perk/debuff combinations can be achieved.
The same goes for the ending. We wanted to do some game over screen after beating the boss, but we ran out of time.
However, we plan to add the missing stuff and do a lot more polishing in the post jam patch.

@linnet5 Yes, low gravity and jump mania, as a combo, can make the game more difficult than it already is. Some of the cards worked fine on paper, but didn't transfer exactly as we intended, after implementing them in the game. We already have some ideas how to make it more 'fun', but that's something for a post jam patch.
As for the torch, it actually deals more damage when thrown, compared to swinging, but we understand that it may not have been properly indicated, or wasn't worthy enough for the player. That's also something we're going to address later on.

@veka I'm happy to hear that you're going to continue improving your game, you achieved to make something fun, and it could become a really nice little game!

for a compo game this is quite insane, realy like the pixel artstyle with the low poly, very doom vibe. Nice concept and cool movement

Oh man. This game is so much fun! I couldn't defeat the final boss. I had one good fight where I had him kind of trapped against a wall and spammed attack for what felt like a good while, but I couldn't get him. The low gravity and constant jumping at that point made the fight extra hard! lol

What really made this game stand out for me was that it's a perfect mix of doom-esque art and tone, combined with the great feeling character controls. It's fun to traverse around the well designed level collecting skulls. I like and applaud the ambitious inclusion of the different abilities/skills you unlock, even though it created some issues that you mentioned you planned to address with rebalancing. I like the inclusion of depth increasing elements like that, especially in the confines of jam game. Awesome game!!!

Great art style
Great music
The game is really fun to play too. Movement feels good for the most part, however, jumping (especially with the low gravity modifier) is a little uncomfortable. I think if the falling speed were increased slightly that would help.
The beholder AI seems to bug out sometimes and they stick to the ceiling or float out of range of your attacks.
Overall, impressive visually, a little clunky to play but fun nonetheless.

Amazing game!! I love the graphic style! Some improvements in controls would make the game even better. A superb game, contrats!

Amazing work for a jam game! While it should feel very repetitive, the addition of all those modifiers makes the gameplay never feel stale. Felt great finding and collecting the red skulls! I couldn't get to grips with throwing the torches, but that wasn't really necessary anyway. Amazing work, thank you!

This game has revealed to me something I needed in my life but never knew. A full D&D and Doom crossover. D&DOOM? Thank you for creating this fantasy in my head!

Really cool! Those pesky two eyed beholders are a real menace! I love the mix up with the mutators and the quick game play loop. I just wish they would be less of punch sponges I respect the ragdollness of them though. The art is also lovely!

Fun game with nice gameplay!
But most of all, really great artstyle and good looking graphics! I really like this kind of simplistic 3D art style with pixelated textures, looks really nice, and the colour palette works really well with it.

Great work!

Low gravity description was very apt. I would have liked to pull multiple cards or trade out cards from a finite deck (to disable auto jump and low gravity for instance).

You really nailed the old school FPS vibes with this. I got through everything except the boss. I just couldn't deal enough damage before my life ran out. But I really did enjoy what I played, could use a bit more feedback with each hit. More bass/screenshake

Very fun game to play, the graphics and feel were pretty good. I run an ultrawide and found that a good chunk of the HUD was cut off for me, including the countdown timer. Player movement feels a bit slower than i might like. I didn't care for the auto jump buff(debuff?), as i felt i had no control over where i was moving after that came into play. Overall, solid submission

This game was very cool! I got reeled in by the amazing gifs and stayed for the demonic oldschool FPS vibes. The controls feel nice and gameplay-wise it offers a good challenge! I will say that I was kind of clueless on what I had to do at first but I gradually found out and was having a lot of fun when I streamed it! The game could have really benefited from having more SFX in there. That being said, it's amazing what you all managed to do in so little time. By the way, I would love to know how each of you has contributed to the game (credit yourselves guys!).
