Stranded by TheGamer

made by TheGamer for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

You are a space marine, in charge of going around the galaxy collecting research on forgotten alien tech, until your ship malfunctions and crash-lands into an unknown planet. The planet is inhabited by strange hostile beings, creatures who feast upon the living. Upon the planet lies a pillar which the creatures have begun sacrificing themselves to, causing a wave of energy to erupt around the planet and a huge charge coming from the pillar itself, whatever it's charging is definitely not good. You and your laser cannon will do whatever it takes in order to stop these beings from fueling the obelisk as sacrifices while also delaying this mysterious pillar from charging. You know that it will be fully charged once you leave the planet, and it's impossible to stop it from going off. The only thing you can do is delay it while hoping you won't be near it when it inevitably activates, for the ominous signs inscribed on it, claim that it is unstoppable.

Fun little game. I think more enemies with less health would feel a little better. And maybe change up the laser sound since it is a little ear piercing when you hold the button down for a long time.

I enjoyed it though, great job!

I was so curious what would happen when the obelisk gets over-charged - I just waited and the explosion was so worth it! Would be interesting if the user could choose where to crash land, to add a layer of strategy.

Some of the mechanics are a bit confusing, such as charging the gun, and the forcefield around the ship.

I wish the player did more damage, but I like the sound effect on the lazer and the little camera shake when you start shooting. The controls feel very smooth overall

Nice game! A little unclear at first but I got the hang of it. Very satisfying lining up a chain of enemies and blasting em away =). Some enemy variety would have been nice to spice things up. Also nice victory screen art!

Nice game!! A few ideas that could benefit the gameplay IMO, you could make the enemies to follow you and go to the ship at the same time. otherwise you can make the follow you and they'll stop attacking the ship. A few other weapons wold also be a fine adition.

There's an object at the bottom right that for some reaso absorbs the enemies, not sure if that's supposed to be there.

Great job, congrats on your game!!

BTW, a nuclear explosion blew me away, was there a chance of survival??

@webox The object at the bottom right is the obelisk. It will use the zombies as sacrifice by comparing the distance between the payer and the obelisk. If the distance to the player is too far, the zombies will go to the obelisk instead. If the obelisk is full, the inevitable happens.

It is a good game from an art and audio perspective. It really gives off a nice mood with the screen shake and music too. However from a design perspective it is a bit questionable. There isn't anything interesting here, little to no explanation is given, and finally a lot of the stuff is just confusing at first. At the end i dont even know whether i won or failed.

Nice game. It was a unclear at first what the purpose of the obelisk was. I love the art and sound. The music, combined with the bare landscape and the fact you are enclosed by visible borders of the map makes for a surprisingly lonely mood. The gameplay is quite simple, and would need more development to have any kind of replay value. Pretty cool game overall, needs some further design considerations to improve fun. Hope this helped :)

Nice job bud! Had a good time destroying little aliens. I escaped from the planet just in time! I think...I didn't understand what I was doing the whole time but the art and cutscene at the end was cool. Nice work!

I actually let the shield go down to see how long it would take (it took a long time xD) and then after my character died, I still saw the cute ending graphic which I loved!

Overall, the sounds are a bit hard on the ears, especially during the menu, however the art is really adorable!

Well done!

The art is a lot of fun and the gameplay is very smooth. The overall concept is straight forward and plays quite well.

I had to turn off the sound because the laser reminded me too much of a dentists drill.

Overall, good job
