I love the VS Fighter theme. Everything works together really well and the game has soo much energy ! It's also well balanced difficulty wise. Cutscenes are really sweet too.

I didn't really care to choose between ice and wind cards, as they end up doing pretty much the same thing (buying time). They could have been a bit more different, but they still adds variety so that's the most important.

Clean and super fun game !

Very funny! Amazing artstyle and well fitting music! The sprites and the animations for all the attacks are all so so nice. Very nicely polished game over all. It is also nice to see that the inevitable can sometimes be a good thing :). Great job making the game!

Just wow! Incredibly polished, slick graphics, awesome soundtrack and a very cute take on the theme. Everything fits so well together. Also I really enjoyed the game mechanic. The control was simple and worked well. The interaction with the speech bubble was clear and effective. Also, losing in a game never felt this great before

Definitely my favourite entry so far!

The game looks and feels really nice. At first I wasn't sure what the fire did, but after not picking any fire for a while it became very clear what it does. While the concept is quite simple, the execution is really well done.

Hello Dodoot and Dodidodo,

I loved the overall aesthetic and art in this game. You did an amazing job with the special effects and feel over the gameplay. The concept of a fighting type card game was very unique as well. The theme implementation was also very well done and I have not really seen anything like it.

Something I would have liked is to get more involved with the story/what the actual cards were saying. I didn't really have time to read the card because I was focusing on the combos.

Yall did a fantastic job thank you for participating in the jam :D I look forward to seeing more games of yours in the future!

Great entry! One of my favourites so far!

**PROS:**
- Sort of a typing game.
- Great visuals.
- Very responsive controls with amazing user feedback.
- I felt the intensity grow as the speech balloon got bigger.
- I loved the "dialogue".

I'd usually add a cons list too but I honestly can't think of anything that's different than "Would've loved more content!" which is obviously not the most fair con to add as a gamesjam review :hearts:

This is so delightful. On the outset, a very clever take on the theme, but the subversion of the theme at the end is genius. The animation and scale of the text boxes and attack feel juicy and impactful. I'm one of those weird folks that like quick time events, and the string of button mashing that make up the game here is a lot of fun. The dialogue choices are hilarious, "I can't save my game now!" got me good. Really well done!

I'm not going to lie, I played the first game and I could see the game just to say. HAHA HA

A very interesting use of the theme, and original gameplay too.

As they commented, I found the art style very similar to scott pilgrim, I loved it!

One thing that I think would be interesting would be the sentences changing as you send the answers.

Something like "But...","Listen to me!", "Let me talk" and something like that.

Congratulations!

Only thing I would add is perhaps adding some more card types to spice things up.

Thats a very interesting take on cards games and the style is lovely. While the gameplay is cool I don't quite understand how difficulty and strategy works. It seems I could just take the easy cards and take my time with pressing the right arrow keys.

Very cute game overall. One thing to point out is the fixed time between switching the set of key strokes after a successful hit, I would prefer showing the next set immediately so that players can just keep typing, otherwise the gameplay becomes a cycle that requires waiting at every iteration.

Super cute! I love the art! And it's a fun simple concept that works great with the theme. I like how the different responses had different effects too, really made it feel like executing different moves in a fighting game (well, I assume... I don't play a lot of fighting games )

TOTALLY AWESOME! :sunglasses:

I don't wanna talk about this "Scott Pilgrim"-style-vibes, wich I ABSOLUTELY ADORE :blue_heart: 5 stars for that anyway, so what about gameplay? Color code for each ability (wind, ice, fire) is great decision for UI, very intuitive. Typing combos on arrow keys is challenging and hard for me 'cause I get used to WASD

And some critic's stuff: good ending is very good, BUT! We also wanted to make positive and good ending in game, but one thought came in our gamedevelopers minds: what if player would lose from the first attempt very fast? And what would player see? Nothing bad happens! And so player could loose his motivtion to endure longer, because it's not worth to fight

Btw, game is amazing, thanks for participating this LDjam, very cool entry and very polished! Good luck! :kissing_cat:

Oh my, you two!! I loved welcome Googoo, and now, this!! What a wonderful game *again*!! This is guaranteed to be a smash hit, look at these glowing reviews. And you deserve all of them!

The idea is rather simple, but executed so well, so effectively! It's beautifully polished and juicy. And the graphics are very pretty, there's sort of a Scott Pilgrim vibe, it's adorable.

It's all *so* smart, *so* well done. It's about tiny details: the clever, coloured words to signal the element of the attack? Great piece of UI. But now, you draw hands of 3 cards and you have to choose which attack to use, based on the length of the combination? But *now*, the elements have specific effects, and they're contextual. Wind is useless if the bubble is super far or too big, fire is useless when it's small, frost is the best but only if your situation is already good.

I like to think that one of the ways to gauge the quality of a decision space is to look at how much of the context it takes into account. And this system is so contextual, so simple yet brilliant in its elegance. For its minimalism, the actual depth it has surprised me, when everything clicked together in my mind after a few games. You want to chain-freeze the bubble, but what do you do when there's no frost attack? And it only works when the bubble is not too big, so you have to get it back to the right size with fire and keep it at bay if you can. But every decision has to be split second. It's great.

And I haven't even mentioned that the elements have a unique feel because of the recurring arrow combinations in their moves! And the various combos recreate in a lovely way some of the feel of the fighting games, with the quarter circles and all of that... And I love the way the keys light up on fire when you start inputing a combination! And the risk/reward of losing your concentration if you miss just one move, but of delaying the use of it so you can get the best value from it!

Beautiful work. What a gem. And it just takes 10 minutes to enjoy properly. Thank you very much. I hope you get the rankings you deserve, and I can't wait to see what you make next!

The art is so adorable!! And the vibes overall make me feel so happy, I love it. The gameplay itself is super fun and I love how you have to be quick to win. I would definitely play more and this is definitely one of my favourite games that ive played so far!

The ending is -redacted- and I -redacted- and I also really liked how the attacks had a coloured word to show what type of attack it is. I really love when games have that type of immersive design (:

Overall really well done, and I'd love to see more levels/attacks/fighters etc in this game style. Ive always wanted to make a game where you battle with words/conversation type things, and this is one of the few games ive seen that implements it really well!

Welp that was a great take on the theme, as well as some of the best art I have seen in the jam! As a fan of rhythm games the combos required to execute some of the responses brought a huge smile on my face. Congrats!

Strengths:
- Outstanding visual style
- Very fun gameplay, greatly communicated through the UI
- The twist is the most precious thing ever :)

Possible improvements:
- Sound is hard to make during jams, but all the other aspects of the game were so great, I wish there was some.

Awesome job!

Suuuper unique game idea, and a relatable one! Even outside the theme, I haven't really seen a game like this where your decisions get placed into execution commands. It makes me think of Sabin's special moves, except here your choices actually matter.

I must admit, I didn't pick up on the strategy and elemental effectiveness until I read it in a comment. Personally, I didn't really have any trouble just punching in the moves super quickly. Because of that I didn't look for opportunities to optimize. But now that I'm aware of the underlying strategy it does make me appreciate it more.

I wouldn't mind a hard-mode with some finger twisting action :)

@forgin-bits @jamesolivermusic Thanks for the kind words! Maybe someday a post jam version will have many more cute dialogues and QTEs ✨

@effe @agrimes @okamit @anaxie-studio Thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked the ending, it was quite important to us to turn the theme into something wholesome / positive 💖

@vitor-milioni @daniel-klautsch Thank you so much! Really happy you liked our idea of motion inputs 🔥

@firellon @macabreartgames Thanks for the feedback! Your idea of different ending is great, maybe in a post jam version!

@blinry Thanks for the kind comment and good job on this incredible score!

@fae-pdf thank you thank you thank you 💕 I am so glad that you liked our game, that you saw all the game design decisions we took during this weekend, and that you took the time to write this heartwarming and wonderful comment. Absolutely agree with your take on desicion space and context. That is exactly what we reached for, and we were quite happy when after several iterations everything started to click together. Also I'm quite glad that one can play in very different ways and that even if there is always an optimal choice at any point of the context space, any other is still fine if well executed. Your incredible score show how well you understood everything, good job!

@sarah Thank you for the comment! It was so nice to see you play on stream 💖

@jlv Thanks a lot for this detailed comment! Not sure I understand what you mean about sound, the game has music and SFX! If you mean that it would have been great to have some made by us instead of free sound found on the internet, I agree, it would be even better to work with a sound designer on a future jam!

@peachtreeoath Thank you so much for the nice comment! You are right, we wanted to make it so that most choices were fine but some were better, but this can lead to make it hard to understand the value of choice at first sight. If you want a really hardcore challenge, try to beat this insane score a friend made after several hours of try harding:

Art is great, music and sound effects are spot on and the ending is simple and adorable. Loved it!

Very unique! What a polished game. I like the vibe with the fighting game and the cute idea of trying to avoid terrible news, the twist at the end is funny. Nice art, and good tutorial. Overall a strong entry. One issue though is that I don't know right away what words do which action (freeze vs blow). I do like the feedback and the effects, they were cool.

Good job!

Not gonna lie this really made me smile. Art and presentation was really good (although the artstyle looks a bit.. inspired ;) ). Super cute character designs and effective animations. The gameplay concept is very fun and simple, it was genuinely fun to play!

I have a lot of praise to give, but everyone else has already applauded the art, gameplay and theme. So instead I'm going to say this:

I like how the ultimate is implemented. It mixes things up and prevents the gameplay from getting stale.

@pious Thanks a lot for the detailed comment! Green text means wind and blue text means ice, but it is hard to see the difference if you have a certain type of color blindness. We will try to make the game more accessible if we do a post jam version!

There is so many comments here that I don't think I have any bonus info to deliver :D But so many reviews iteself also shows that the game is very appealing to the audience which is a great thing. Powerful entry, I bet It'd first 100 for sure :D Really cool art, addicting gameplay and fun theme. Marvellous job.

10/10 great game with great humour XD Loved how you used street-fighter styled gameplay in this context. Also enjoyed all the excuses, some even made me laugh out loud :D and also how in the end it wasn't anything serious but one's overthinking

Incredibly original theme and gameplay! I love the visuals, I know it's been mentioned but I definitely got a strong Scott Pilgrim vibe. The colors, sounds, even the little details in the facial expressions all work beautifully well. I want a full length game!
