Intro
Question: How many space colonists does it take to keep the human race from becoming extinct?
Answer: ...well, probably more than we have.
The 13th Colony is a game about the last vestiges of humanity. Earth is toast, and you're the Exploration Lieutenant for the very last Mission to Planet Kepler-22b.
Can you find the resources you need to keep the base from breaking down? Or at least... delay it?
Can you discover what happened to colonies 1-12?

Although this is a jam game, all code, assets, and music were created from scratch (compo rules):
Code: bkelly
Art: kristinamay (in Pixaki)
Music: kristinamay (in Medley)
Writing: kristinamay + Fletcher (thanks for the help!)
Thanks a bundle for giving our game a try - we worked so hard on it and are excited to see what you all discover on Kepple-B!
Whoops!
There might be a few things we didn't get a chance to finish or polish as much as we'd like. If you get a message on-screen that doesn't totally make sense, that's why. It's definitely playable to the end (there are several different endings!), but any "TODO"s you see (hopefully you won't!) are an artifact of our being quite ambitious with this game.

First off - i dont know if i'm blind or didnt pay enough attention but i never where can i find some type of resource and always died on the first night at the start because i started with like -2 water.
Then - I sometimes spawned in to an exploration with really nowwhere to go, i was surrounded by walls and had no resources to take with me and that was kind of annoying and other times i only had like the half of the map because of the map generation
Other than these awesome game and i really liked it
@--0 That's so weird - I haven't been able to repro that bug. Could you outline specific steps that you take to repro the bug? Does it happen reliably?
@greenpig I'm sorry to hear that! Do you mean you can't find any water resources? Or do you mean that your starting water is really low?
The only problem I had was not being able to reach some resources because they spawned in an inaccessible area of the map. I'll try out the wall clip @ruruie mentioned. :)
I like these type of games, and the randomly generated worlds has a warm place in my heart. That's a great entry, well done!
Btw some spacing problem. Game is higher than my default size tab.

Edit: I looked at both of your other games, really like the look of them =)
I encountered a bug where if you die and restart in the same session you keep the resources from the previous game, meaning I started with negative water.
* It wasn't clear to me why I was collecting those resources. Maybe add a warning saying "you will lose the game if you don't collect X". Ah or even better, make the resource counts drop down with an animation and sound and make them go blinking red. I guess it was written on the page below the game but I didn't read it until now :)
* Really cool hex based exploration. Loved that part of the game.
* Nice atmosphere with the music and story.
* I guess the monster part was a bit repetitive but I'm sure you would have added different movement patters and attacks with more time :)
Your game reminds me of the old Star Control 2 game, one where you kept driving around planets grabbing resources and avoiding aliens.
I really like your art, audio, and overall design. I would *love* to play a bigger version of this game and it's one of the LD50 games I plan to play many more times as-is. Good job.
