The Mark of Time by DKMK100
Controls: Movement: WASD Fire: Left Click Change weapons: number keys, mouse wheel, or spacebar Story: You are a powerful archmage, a master of the Arcane arts. For centuries you have been honing your craft, but there is a problem: the fountain of youth has run dry. Fight monsters to collect the last of its elixir, and extend your life a little further.
Gameplay: You have 1 minute until your age catches up with you. Each elixir buys you a few more seconds. Taking damage speeds up the aging process, so avoid getting hit.
Score: score is calculated based on enemies killed, wave reached, and time survived.
Relevance to the theme: this game is about avoiding death, decay, and irrelevance, which fits the theme of delaying the inevitable. It is impossible to avoid losing in the game, you can only delay it.

All edits so far have been bug fixes before the compo deadline ends.

A neat thing you could add (and maybe it's there but I never survived long enough to see) would be small barriers that appear in the level you can hide behind but get destroyed after being hit by enough shots from the player and/or the enemies.
If I were to say something to improve, some kind of feedback on hit would be nice. To be honest, I spent most of my time with my eyes on the enemies and I wasn't fully aware when I was getting hit.
As I mentioned earlier though, I did enjoy playing it, and think that with a bit of polish and some content expansions it could be a really fun game. Good job!
The menu was mostly afterthoughts, but I did focus more on it since my last game was mostly lacking in UI. Guess I overcompensated. The achivements are also really the main mechanic, I spent most of the time on them and there are a fair bit to collect. Has anyone managed to get them all yet?
No idea what the last ones were, but I think I was one short of getting the final clue. Best score was wave 19, ~197 seconds.
