Happy Piggy Farm by TomatoOmelet

[raw]
made by TomatoOmelet for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

You are a happy pig in the farm. Everyday the town folks will eat the fattest and thinnest pig in the farm. Try to survive as long as you can!

Use WASD or the arrow keys to move. Eating will make you fatter and moving helps you lose weight. A new ending will be unlocked if you survive until the end once. 1.gif2.gif Background musics and sound effects are from the following Unity Assets: - Ultimate Game Music Collection - Ultimate SFX Bundle - HD Remaster - Universal Sound FX - Interface and Item Sounds

The music was nice, wish it had more variation though because it gets annoying after a while. The core game is slow and there isn't much depth to the gameplay, but I really liked the cute pigs.

Nice game, I really liked this one.

I'm not sure how intentional this was, but I thought it was really interesting to have a game that lets you play as a farm animal. It's not really something games explore very often, and I thought that this was a cute and engaging way to do that.

Likes:
* Cute little pigs!
* Makes you think about the human relationship with farm animals
* Was a satisfying difficulty
* I laughed when I realized how it ends

Feedback:
* Not too much, I feel like you achieved what you set out to do. Nice work.

Overall, I think this is really cool. I like that you could give this to a kid to play and they would have fun and also maybe empathize more with animals. Well done!

I didn't expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I think it's one of those games that could become a fully flashed game if polished properly, because the idea is amazing. It would be cool to have this like a phone multiplayer. 10 minutes game, where you need to "fight" others to survive as long as you can. Maybe adding some "push" or "bump" mechanics to make it more engaging and make the pigs fight for survival.

But I really liked it.

PS: Special kudos for relaxing music :)

This was nice! :) At least for me the idea is original and even though the goal is very simple, it takes a bit of effort to make it through each day. So a nice arcade-y game.

I got to the end on my first try, though, so either I got lucky it isn't that challenging. But it was still nice. I don't honestly think there's much replay value after that, though...

I also think it was a nice take on the theme, although the inevitability didn't come through that well until the very end.

All in all, I really liked the basic idea of balancing between the two extremes.

Nice game and a really great take on the theme. Managed to make it to the end and it really drove home the inevitability. Good job.

Nice game, sometimes felt a bit long each round, but overall really nice game.

Really nice take on the theme! The simple mechanic is executed well, and I like the results screen at the end of each day with the little animations. At times I thought the days felt a bit long, so maybe they could have been shortened a little. Overall great job!

Really interesting concept and cute little pigs.

I feel like I have the most fun when my pig is eating apple, yet the game don't want me to eat all the apples.

Love this entry.

Quite engaging. Played through it twice (to get the 2nd ending) but otherwise there's not much replay value at the moment. The mechanics is easy to figure out which is good. Art is cute and consistent with the simplicity of the game.

Actually a really well thought-out game loop here! Super simple, but it's fun to try and track the other pig's weight values while you manage your own. Good job!

Pretty fun use of the theme. I've probably cheesed it a bit though by 'stalking' a pig and stealing all the food it was about to run into, managing my own weight to stay a bit above.

Nice choice with the music & art, it fits really well  Was fun, I enjoyed playing it, but there was supposed to be a new ending after surviving till the end? Tried second time but it was the same, so maybe I missed something? Overall, nice & fun game

This is a fun game, reminiscent of a snake. I liked the implementation and the sound of the pig on pressing the button.)

First I thought, ok, nothing special. Then I played it.
Wow! Cool! I did not expect the depth, the stress, my motivation to get to the end, the strategy and tactics.
And even I knew better, I thought that "killing two pigs if only one is there would let me survive" ...
Graphics are nice, each pig different. Font does not fit. No need to put "Weight" at each pig, but have the weight number bigger.
Small things:
I thought, I would like to see a ranking during the game, but no it is good not to have it.
I would have liked to have a special pig, even I was in the middle at the end of each round, my eyes had to look for "me".
Congratulations for such a fun, surprising deep game in the short jam!

@noiyy Thank you for playing the game twice! After beating the game once the pig in the main menu would carry a sword, and in the game you can pick up a sword which is at southern side of the farm then you will be able to enter the second ending.

@tomatoomelet Ah yes, I did pick up a sword, but thought it was just cosmetic, since the ending was the same.

@noiyy Weird after picking up the sword you should be able to get an additional choice after showing the result of the day. Maybe it is a bug, thank you for letting me know!

The piggies are cute. Gameplay is simple and fun. You could make the size of the piggies depend on their weight.

Amazing humor and nice UI, the game is also very fun. It also feels very polished, the screenshots don't do it justice.

Nice game! I really like all the different pig characters. Interesting concept to try to stay in the middle weight area - at first I ate as much as possible then read the directions better!

I have never thought about balance like this in a game before. Pretty cool how a strategy emerges of finding a pig with low weight and just trying to stay slightly above it so you don't get too big. Only in the very last round did I feel like there was a chance I would lose, since there were only two other pigs. Adding a little more pressure earlier on in the game would make it more engaging. Maybe it's more difficult to avoid apples? Or maybe there are some different foods that give more mass? Maybe a sprint that burns mass faster? I think just adding a few more decisions to make would create a more dynamic minute-to-minute.
I appreciate the amount of art and animation. Having different types of pigs is really nice, and I like the alien creature. I few more sounds could create a bit more engagement -- some oinking and footsteps, perhaps.
Very good entry!

Nice! I like the core mechanic very much! Too keep the overview one must move but this changes the game state - At first I tried to always find the fattest piggy and try to stay minimally below its weight but this introduces the danger of loosing the overview - the next strategy I tried is to wait until about 10 seconds left and then balance the weight based on this more "static" game state :)
