Swarm by arachnid56

[raw]
made by arachnid56 for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Survive for as long as possible, before, inevitably, the swarm gets you.

Find orbs to keep your vision radius high, and use your blasting spell when the swarm is closing in on you.

Game needed some more mechanics and was too easy in my opinion, but I liked the art style and music.

Game was a little short, but I like the concept of an enveloping darkness!

I like the idea of incorporating herd dynamics into the game! It is a great success. Love the atmosphere! I enjoyed. Thanks!

Gets repetitive pretty quickly. I like the atmosphere of the game, it fits. Was pretty laggy when the swarm was there, though.

@tutoa i'm so glad you noticed the herd dynamics :) it took a long time to get right. Thanks for playing!

I like the atmosphere, but it does slow down considerably once the swarm gets bigger. I've also seen some of the light balls outside the game field, unfortunately.

This is a nice concept. I think it would've worked a bit better if the player and the swarm were slowed down a bit. Even with full vision, sometimes you don't have enough time to react if you meet a swarm head on. Also, it would have been nice if there were a replay button since I had to reload (and redownload) the game to play again.

I think I found a bug in the waves survived counter. It seemed to change randomly (even going down instead of up sometimes). It could be that I'm misunderstanding what it's for, but it left me rather confused.

Anyways, good work. I could see this being very interesting with a few changes.

@dafluffypotato hey, thanks for the feedback! Btw I got into gamedev by learning pygame and watching your videos, so it's great to see you comment on one of my games almost 2 years later

@arachnid56 that's funny. I didn't expect to run into anyone that watched my videos here. lol

A cool little game, i enjoyed the circular field of view that could expand, and watching the swarms float around before starting to chase me! The art style was really cute and liked the walk animations! Good job! :)
