The Pit by dikkop

You and your buddies wake up after a long night of drinking.
Being wizards, you remember something about bragging to summon the greatest evil of all time: THE PIT!
It turns out THE PIT cannot be unsummoned, just your luck.
There is one way to delay the evil though, by sacrificing anything to THE PIT!
Move with WASD
Pickup/Throw with Space
Pick up objects and throw them in the pit!
Try to survive longer than your buddies!
Watch out for angry villagers who don't want you to sacrifice their babies!
This is a local multiplayer game but can be played alone (Keyboard + Controllers supported).
POST Jam fixes:
- Added an end screen to easily restart the game
- Players can now beat the game by doing 10 "Worthy" sacrifices

Then, we realized there are babies to sacrifice. And it got even better.
Then, we discovered that we can actually fight the villagers back which was great.
Turns out, you can also sacrifice them afterwards :smirk: The game got better again.
When the timer runs out, we thought we're done. But you don't lose immediately, the ghost spawns which will haunt you. And soon you will discover that it is also not an invicible being (sacrificing plans didn't work here tho, sadly). You guessed it, this has made it even better.
Then, we realized that we can probably harass other wizards. And it was true.
The ultimate sacrifice was really satysfying. Overall it was really really good and we were more impressed by each interaction :D
Excellent entry, I'm keeping this one on my hard drive for short but sweet local multiplayer sessions with friends. Technically it worked flawlessly with gamepads out of the box (xbox one gamepads). It was very, very fun to discover all the little mechanics and I'm surprised how deep it went! I would love some kind of a comeback system after the death (or ability to possess some other creature on the map to keep playing (CRAWL style))
Why don't these dumb peasants realise I'm trying to save them.
By throwing them into a hole.
They could at least help out and throw a banana or two at the devourer of worlds.
My only criticism is that the screaming only busted one of my eardrums.
Only minor thing is it seems that once you die you have to Alt-F4 out of the game to restart? Or was I missing something?
A really fun play, I could see this evolving into a full game with more content. Would love to see more couch co-op games in the world!
Really impressive to create all of the assets and music solo as well, and the music & sounds create an enigmatic experience. The art fits the mood, was easy to read and nicely done.
The only criticism I'd say and that might've been because I played single player is that I didn't feel a sense of progress. (Either by "resources" running out, the game becoming more difficult or reaching a certain score. But that might also have just been me not playing long enough.)
But that's a small part of an overall great game!
Man, the art, the sound, everything is on point! <3
I loved everything about this game :id:
I wish it had a lot of levels, the only thing I will complain is: PUT A WEB BROWSER BUILD NEXT TIME, because people would enjoy a lot more :D
Fun and funny game, GJ!
Those choirs were a great idea.
Great what you have created here.
Really, my only issues are the lack of a game over screen (I had to sit there staring at my corpse as the meter ran out repeatedly) and not knowing when I'd draw aggro from villagers. A few times, it felt like they just turned on me for no reason. Then again, I *did* see someone drop dead for seemingly no reason right in front of the pit, and it's possible I might've accidentally done that while trying to throw something in? If so, that's even funnier, the idea of a wizard pelting someone in the back of the head with an apple so hard they die and then being shocked when people are upset with him!
