The Journey of the HMS Theseus by Tad

[raw]
made by Tad for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Oh No

You promised your darling betrothed that you'd come home in one piece. You are homeward bound (that's good), but your ship - the HMS Theseus - keeps breaking down (that's bad)!

Keep your ship in one piece long enough to make it ashore. Good luck, sailor!

How to Play

What to do

Keep your ship homeward bound by directing your crew members to fix the various issues that come up. For instance, a hole may appear in the ship... or the sail may tear... or the mast may break!

Be careful of the rising water in the ship. If the ship sinks, you'll all have to swim ashore! Send a crewman to the Pump-o-Matic water pump at the bow (the front) of the ship to help clear it up.

Controls

Click and drag crewmen to the issue you'd like to fix.

Great graphics and fun gameplay! A bit annoying that the command sometimes didn't seem to register but worked around it on my fourth attempt and managed to get to shore. While I like that you can finish it it kind of defeats the "inevitable" part of the theme. But still, good job!

I like the strategic aspect of this game, how you have to keep positioning your man to get the most optimal solution, I also admittedly tried to assign all of them to the pump lol smart-me, what is the ship made out of anyway ??. anyway I think this game is cool

I really like the gameplay and the graphics looked very nice! The AI for the different ship-mates worked very well and the management feel to the game was very enjoyable, as it made you multitask and plan ahead which was great! It also allowed for some strategical gameplay like at the start I'd get them all onto different floor in preparation! The animations were also very polished and the different ways the holes would be patched up was a nice touch and added another layer of polish!

The holes could have maybe had some particle effects to show water coming in, but I totally understand the time constraints and what you managed to achieve in the time was great, I also think the ship should have maybe taken bit longer to fill up, but that's because I was really enjoying playing and wanted it to last longer! Some of the characters would appear on top of each other, maybe they should've stood next to each other if they were in the same place, that is absolutely a nit pick because the game was really well made!

Overall, this game is very well polished and super fun to play, this is a really great game, which is why I wrote so much about it because I really liked it! Very well done, extremely fun!

Cool idea! Really like the fact that the game's simple but challenging at the same time. Graphics are also great. Nice entry :)

Funny how this is perceived differently. For me the game was way too easy. :P Maybe you should add a hard mode. Or let the player scale the difficulty by choosing how many sailors he wants to have.

Simple concept, but I liked how you could approach it from a couple different avenues. I had a lot of fun figuring out how to optimally play it and by the end of it (like 3 playthroughs) I think I figured out a way to win every time. Really fun entry and if you could add a Post Jam hard mode ping me and I'll be the first to play it.

Land Ho!

+ I like the layer aspect you added to your ship so it allowed each swabbie to man a layer
+ The various patch jobs made me chuckle. Made me feel like the swabbies would keep asking "Who on in-game Earth built this ship?!" lol
+ When my ship sank it made me laugh.

- Maybe add in a different sound effect when the sails break. I originally thought it was the hole mechanic breaking a hole I was already fixing and was going to mention that to you guys. My ship speed seemed horribly slow, thought that was a mechanic for your game and had originally stopped playing.
- What is the inevitable part? My ship sunk in one game and I made it to land in another.

I think it is a cool little game and thank you for sharing it on feed

A straight forward game that worked well a "figure it out as you go" play. I really enjoyed the use of posers and logos to patch up holes. The music worked well along with the sound effects. The simple graphics added to the charm along with everything being activated by a hammer. Overall, great job!

I thought this was fun. Really appreciated the pause button as I started playing before figuring out how to play, so I was able to recover my first attempt. I liked it enough to try to get further a second time also.
Great entry!
