Avoid Him Like the Plague by CKTO

[raw]
made by CKTO for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Play as a plague doctor being chased by death as you take advantage of death's scythe (which you totally didn't steal) LD50 game. Theme "Delay the inevitable". Made by a team of three (coder, artist, MusicDude)

Controls/info: - Press A and D, or Arrows to move. - Press Space to jump. - Press Shift while moving horizontally to dash and reap. - Grab the vital energy to delay your inevitable decay into the void. - Even though death is inevitable, we thought it would be cool to give some kind of conclusion to the game, just keep going.

in general, I liked it, but the impact system is not conveniently implemented

I liked the game too, great art (the promo is one of the best) and music, also idea of stealing the scythe is pretty neat. I only wish you made at least one checkpoint.

This is a solid, well-rounded game. Everyone who worked on it did their job well. I don't even have that many suggestions to give, but I do have a couple things. It would be neat if there was a double jump, and you could jump mid-air after dashing. It would obviously require the level to be redesigned, but this game would benefit from a little more depth in the movement. For something more actionable, punchier sound and particle effects when reaping someone would really enhance the game feel on this one. Good job overall, though, this is a great entry.

Liked the game !!

Loved the dash mechanic and the whole "reaping" thing, though i would've liked it more if it were endless. Also they do be angry huh :p

Cute graphics, tight controls and a enjoyable mechanics all come together for a really solid entry. Checkpoints would have been nice though as mentioned, I rage-quit after falling in a whole

Neat game! I really like the pixel art and going between the 2 worlds is a neat idea.

Some notes: It can be a bit difficult to tell how the dash move works at first. If I understand correctly, the player needs to first hold a direction, then hit Shift to dash. It might be a bit more intuitive if pressing Shift makes the player dash in the direction they're facing even if no direction is being held.

Overall fun game though.

I like the theme and the art style. For me the dashing and reaping was a bit confusing at first as well. Otherwise this little game is funny and cute and definitely deserves some more ratings. :)

Love the classic artstyle and the idea behind of the game, although I think falling down is too unforgiving.

Solid theme interpretation. The whole Shift while moving horizontally thing is very weird. Music is nice and moody.

It was pretty fun. I like how the game neither goes on forever nor ends with some forced end that doesn't differ from usual loss, but actually has a proper ending with dialogue and such. Also, it does seem like while the plague was there before the plague doctor died, it might be actually him that made the losses even greater, which is also a nice twist.

The gameplay mechanics were nice, I like how the attack has the dual purpose of taking down the human and performing a dash - it was especially useful in the later stages of the game. Level design is also nice; I'd just prefer if the side scrolling advanced faster if I was near the edge, so that I wouldn't need to wait for the next part on another of my playthroughs.

Audiovisuals were fine, I just sort of wish the gameplay had these hi-res graphics as seen on the menu, rather than the pixel art. Not that there's something wrong with pixel art, I just would like to see other styles more often for a change. ^^'

I really like the art style and mood in this game. The shift reaping thing was a bit awkward at first, but I thought it was fun once I got used to it. It's not the most complex game, but it's pretty decent for a jam.

Liked the pixel art of the game. The camera is bit slow though. Other than that great game!
