Hurry Mommy ! by Yvanor

[raw]
made by Yvanor for Ludum Dare 50 (COMPO)

Hi ! I haven't took part in the Ludum Dare since a long time ! This one was hard to finish within time, but I managed to do something playable so I'm happy. I was able to try out new systems and things, so it was very educational.

Thanks for playing !

Bugfixes version D+1

This version fix some game-breaking bugs like non-working controller or broken collisions. It doesn't add any features, so I advise you to play with this version :) !

Game :

You play as a tired mom, who is venturing into a mall during the first day of sales for one thing: having a noise-cancelling headset and be able to relax a bit when her baby is crying. However, when entering, baby's icecream fall down !

You need to delay baby's crying by giving him toys, while doing your best to make yourself a path though the crowd, and get this headset !

Fun game that fits the theme perfectly.

I hadn't been aware of the SuperPowers 2D-3D game engine, looks interesting, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Characters: baby, mom, cat, shoppers are all engaging.

A few very minor nitpicks:
1) Although the mom has other matters on her mind, but it would be nice if she could blink her tired eyes once in a while. In contrast, the baby's eyes (even with the pixelated style) are so much more expressive, bursting into tears.

2) The red tape, separating the sections of the stage, reappears after mom respawn. I would expect that the red tape stays cut once it is cut.

Nice work! It is a funny concept! I missed having audio in this, it would be great to add it in if you continue to work on it!

I love the way it looks. Platforming is a bit frustrating.

the baby in no way felt impactful. After giving it toys I just ignored it the rest of the time.

There were many times leaving the fruit store on accident teleported me to the beginning. I thought I lost the game but I'm really not sure.

I loved the theme of the of it, but feel challenged.

Cute toy graphics! The perspective also looks pretty cool but makes platforming a bit hard. Would be nice to have some audio for sure though. And it wasn't clear what the penalty for the baby crying was as it seems he just cries immediately after you give him a toy but it doesn't seem to matter -- i think the mechanics needed a bit more fleshing out.

While I agree with the others that the baby crying mechanic was confusing, I did enjoy jumping and collecting everything in the game, and the art and stuff you were doing (moving a discount sign to the other headset) was funny and very charming. I'm glad you learned some things during the jam, that's always the must valuable thing I take out of it. Here's to more learning in the future for us both!

Really good style.
The player movement is quite good, had no issue to be a super mom flying across the mall
Like others, I didn't understand the penalty for the baby crying but the game is still fun anyway.
Good job !

I like the art style, and the way you can knock over the cellphones when you walk on the counters. There's a gap in the first map's collision detection though, because if I get past the red tape and walk along the bottom edge of the map, I can fall off into infinite blackness around where the boxes start. This was on the bugfixes version.

Very cool, feels pretty complete for a compo game! This could be a great game with audio and a less mysterious baby, as other pointed out :P
