[raw]
made by Spaint for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

ejectedcop6.gif

Imagine, you are an astronaut who has been ejected/kicked out/escaped from/blown away or whatever reason are// from your space station. So now what? You are in a open space without any means of movement control and your oxygen supply runs down!

But, gladly, you are not the first who has been ejected and there's alot remnants of previous misfits - oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers, even weapons. Catch them and throw away, speed or slow yourself up!

You have to delay the inevitable and try to survive through harsh space with various obstacles and enemies.

The game is interesting and nicely balanced. It really feels like we have to deal with all of our stuff while trying to survive in space :D
The control were just a bit confusing, it was pretty hard to do something while panicking, but like in real life I guess

Good job! :)

one big wacky rush with some quick thinking inventory & physics shenanigans, I enjoyed that. lot to keep track of

This was a pretty well-made game! I enjoyed the graphics, the gameplay, and the mechanics! The only problem I had was that it was somewhat difficult to understand all the mechanics. It took me a little while to get the hang of everything, but overall, I quite enjoyed it!

Very creative gameplay, basically a very fast and reflexive inventory management game which I enjoyed playing through. I found it a little difficult at the start with the small inventory space but the game becomes significantly easier if you get lucky and find an inventory increase item.
I have a couple points I've thought of while playing the game:

- Items are pretty hard to see against the black space background, and when you go very fast there is not enough time to react to which item is coming your way. I understand that's the purpose of the top element to indicate what items are incoming but sometimes multiple items can be found in those clusters and there isn't any time to react to pick one: In a low oxygen situation I would throw away a knife to make room for an oxygen tank but not for a fire extinguisher for example. Perhaps there's some skill issue involved here on my end

- Progression could use a little tweaking. I found myself throwing away everything, using a fire extinguisher to go fast, and then just stacking oxygen tanks until I get an inventory upgrade, and then the game becomes much easier upon getting one upgrade. Maybe make the inventory upgrade slower? This is a minor point because game jams don't really leave a ton of room for minor tweaks like this.

Overall, fun game!

This is a really funny and unique concept! I think the best part about the premise is that you have no real idea why you're motivated to keep moving forward and faster, you just are.

I had a fairly similar experience to @carlos-murillo in terms of stocking various items vs using them. I also thought the speed aspect of the game was a very interesting risk/reward mechanic to slow you down, other than the obvious ones like the cop car or the space dust. IMO there are very few games that let you play with speed in this sort of way so it was nice to see you explore it in a very organic way that was totally in line with the theme of the game.

All the perma-upgrade items felt AWESOME to get, but it was quite hard to know which ones were which on the first few playthroughs.

Overall I'm a big fan of the speed looting concept here and you explored it in a VERY novel setting and game theme.

cool physics as well, its cool that you linked all the resources ... do you happen to have a "making of"? It would be so cool to watch as a learning material

It's a great entry to the jam :) the idea is original and the way to manage the inventory is comfortable maybe my feedback would be to try to have a little more cohesion between the size of the inventory, the objects/obstacles and the speed at which you go (it's fun to go fast but it makes it almost impossible to grab things that are also hard to see in the first place).

@velvetlobster No, sorry, nothing else to show, we were already stressed as it is :)

Inventory was based on this tutorial, it is UE4 specific, but you easily can modify it for anything.

Woooooooow amazing game. Very unique gameplay, kind of reminds me of Treasure Galaxy for some reason. Definitely an immersive game. The space cops were hilarious and also a perfect balancing mechanism. Just all around super great!!!

I was shocked on how much stuff there was for the settings menu. The gameplay was pretty fun. I enjoyed the parts where you get to fly into a ship. The only thing is, it gets really hard to pick up items, and use them quickly when going at high speeds, and sometimes it's hard to know when an enemy is going to attack you. Sometimes when I went by, the enemies did nothing to me. Besides that, I liked this game. The extra polish definitely adds to the experience. Nice job!

The game is way deeper than I first thought, and I was blown away by the depth in settings page. Much more polished than a typical jam game!

I didn't have 7-zip on this computer, so I had to install a program just to extract it. That might be a barrier to some players

Wow it is a really interesting game and a lot of fun) The graphics are really cool, and that you have done a lot of game play content in your runner - amazing.
Great job!
But art of a squid is quite doesn't fit to your game, I think, but still cool)

I liked the graphics and the game feel. Felt kind of overwhelmed when trying to collect stuff at high speeds, I guess I shouldn't go that fast. Anyways, a cool concept. (I got the officer beepsky space station 13 reference)

No help to the poor astronaut from space police :( 2km - as far as i can get - not a long distance for space-scale. But that was really fun! :) It's cool that every item has it's own use and at the same time can be thrown away to increase speed. On the other side of that - the amount of game mechanics even feels overwhelming to me. I wish some of them were merged together or simplified somehow. Overall that's an awesoe work you've done here folks, great job!

The visuals and environments were very nice. Great job with the theme and the stress of delaying the inevitable with the 02 tanks and whatnot. Wasn't sure what everything did and some of the click boxes were a little finicky at faster speeds, but all in all very impressive.

Nice entry, if all the assets were made during the jam that's a lot of work, good job
