Baking Simulator 2022 - PLAY NOW
Can you pass the simulation?

Can you delay the inevitability that another baker will take your place?
Alone in the kitchen, can you figure out how to PERFECTLY replicate a recipe? You're not given the best instructions, and there seems to be some strangeness afoot, but I'm sure you can do it!
Controls: [game works best full screen]
Left Click - Pick up Ingredients/Measuring Spoons/Cups
Right Click - Set something down
Left Click - Fill cake pan

Teamwork
Just kidding, I worked alone \o/
I made all the art, and code myself :3 Update I added some incompetech background music so that game wasn't so eerily quiet!! So I've opted out of Audio ratings because of that :3 I DEFINITELY scoped this project wayyyyy too big but I STILL GOT A WORKING??? game out of it :3

Thanks for making it this far and playing my game! You've come far and worked hard, have a cupcake \o/

Anyone that leaves a comment on my game, I'll play&rate your game back <3 <3 <3
UPDATE 1
I have added some incompetech music and fixed a breaking bug where the cupcake pan didn't allow itself to be refilled! Things appear smooth now :3

This was great.
The art and humor was great. Just because I am a button doesn't mean you have to press me (Actually... It does)!
I'm happy to say I wasn't terminated.
That kitchen is way too organized and clean to be a simulation of my kitchen though...
I'm so glad you liked it! And I do agree, buttons kind of just HAVE to be pressed xD I had hoped to add some more chaotic elements but I ran out of time because of how big I scoped this idea \o/ BUT I PLAN TO CONTINUE WORKING ON IT :3
Congratulations!!! Great job!
I agree with the above comment. This very much feels like old games I played when I was a kid, and it's very nostalgic. I enjoyed my time with this.

I really thought this was shrimp
Cute game !
Great work =)
the way to do things wasnt super obvious, i had to fiddle with clicking around and got a little annoyed until i understood, i never knew what BU was but i sorta figured it out, nice work
Had some decent time after figuring out what to do. I wish the "zoom in" window at the bottom of the screen was optional and hints in the upper right corner were a bit hard to make out, at least on my screeen.
Good job!
The measurement is different from what I'm familiar to, it gave me some trouble, requires some math. I do enjoy finding items and tools in the area, feel very related to real life.
Good job!
Took me a bit to figure out what should interact with what, but once I did it went much smoother. cool entry!
@naplz I definitely felt inspired by older games I used to play as well! I'm glad it worked out xD
@proxy-games I actually intended it to feel magnifying glassish haha, I was hoping to have it give the feel of like, when you have to lean in to read the recipe because there's flour in your eye or something :P
The poster was to make it feel like a real workplace xD
@thegamer The gameplay was meant to be a bit more simplified initially but as I started making it I realized it was getting more and more complicated and I was fine with that xD cause its just like baking irl haha
@adamk33n3r The BU unit is meant to be confusing because I just made it up haha. It technically stands for 'Baking Units' and I forgot to *ever tell anyone that* but this is fine! Also, yes you're correct about the theme, I actually had this idea before the jam started and I tried to fit the theme in but I didnt have enough time to add my ideas, so I went with what I had now haha. I basically wanted to have the oven potentially explode everytime you used it, to a point where it would definitely explode eventually and the idea would have been to see how much you could bake before that happened, HOWEVER TIME IS A CRUEL MISTRESS.
@reulan I actually was also impressed at how well the baking process turned out in this format haha, I actually get so much enjoyement out of virtually baking, so I kind of just made this game for myself xD
@boclow I think this was my first game jam to actually have intuitive controls that didn't immediately confuse everyone (*progress*) But I also intentionlly wanted to have some math involved cause I also like math but sometimes when im baking irl I have to do some quick math and this was my best way to represent it in a game :3
@velvetlobster I changed out the music right after you tried it actually! So its a lot more soothing now :3 I can see how it would look like shrimp xD
@fis Its okay, everyone gets replaced eventually xD at least the end result gets decorated haha
@vidarn I'm glad you noticed some of the details! I spent a lot of time trying to make the atmosphere feel kitcheny xD And figuring out the weird measurements is one of my favourite parts of the game! I'm so glad I was able to get it all working with the chart on the wall and things (:
@underlig Its definitely got the enjoyable but tense vibes that I love, but Im hoping to make a post jam version that is much more chill :3
I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE FEEDBACK, it makes me really happy to see everyone enjoying the game! I put a lot of hours into making this happen and it ALL FEELS WORTH IT!
I'm ABSOLUTELY interested in making a post jam version as well, for anyone interested \o/
Also BU means 'Baking Units' haha but I forgot to add that to my [HINT] list!
@vitor-milioni I actually had thought about unpacking during parts of the jam!! It also gave me similar vibes when i was working on the sorting/cupboards ingredients inside etc. So its actually really fun to just move everything around, and initially I wasnt going to have a button HOWEVER, I was worried ingredients might go missing xD so I wanted to have a failsafe and then it was just very satisfying haha. Id like to have it so that as a player you can decide what the 'put away' position of an ingredient is :3
Im actually planning to make a post jam version that is more fleshed out! I had this idea a bit before the game jam even started! Ive been doing my own art for my games for a while and this was definitely one of the more extensive arts ive done. I spent about 16 hours out of the first 20 doing just art and making sure the items looked good in game :3 it was so much work but it really paid off! (my brain is still catching back up, I couldnt even play any games last night haha)
@mrstari Thanks for trying it out \o/
@glayson I had always intended it to be played full screen because otherwise some of the text and things might be hard to read haha, but I'm not sure why the mouse would have broken! I'm glad it worked after reloading :3
@sodoj I also love to bake irl so I was really excited to play this afterwards as well haha. I ACTUALLY HAD CODED THE MINI CAMERA TO BE OPTIONAL, and completely forgot to add the button to do it now that I read your comment!!! Cause I knew it would be better to be off sometimes xD And I also wanted to make the hints/text look better but it was unfortunately one of the final things I did and I just ran out of time to make it more polished, but its absolutely on my list!
@vivyhasadream I tried to make it feel as close to baking irl as I could! I really wanted to replicate the fun I have when I bake cookies or cupcakes etc. I had hoped to make it so that the items/pans etc could be set elsewhere but I was struggling technically with it so I gave them all their places and I actually kind of ended up liking it better! It made me feel like my kitchen was organized haha
I was hoping to make the measurements feel 'new' to everyone, even experienced bakers so I actually just made up my own 'Baking Units' for the game xD
@guy-girmonsky The idea I had was that I wanted a bit of confusion on what to do when you first got there, and that with time you would learn, just like if you were in a new kitchen irl! I was really trying to replicate the idea that you get dropped in a kitchen as a substitute baker xD I didnt really have enough time to flesh out the 'story' part that I wanted to have to make that more clear haha
@snowycocoon thanks for playing! i'm glad you had fun (:
@alex-stewart I hope your cake was good! I also really liked the math part, so i'm glad to see I wasn't alone on that front!!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR TRYING OUT MY GAME AND LEAVING FEEDBACK EVERYONE, I really appreciate it all <3
As I said in the above comment, i'm planning to make a post jam version for anyone interested!!
I like that the colors actually mix together in the batter and the looking glass is also nice touch. Little details like those can add a lot :relaxed: The experience overall did remind me of real baking (albeit probably with nicer results x.x). Overall a pleasant entry!
I liked the fact that you always had to think a little on what combination of spoons you should use.
Some elements were a bit hard to understand at first, I spend a couple of minutes looking for a bowl before understanding I had to validate the receipe haha. The hints and zoom are very nice ideas.
Good job! 🧁
The humor was there, the zoom function was a great smart addition and the graphics were minimalistic, clear, and cute! The colours you used are so soothing!
Clean art style (and even cleaner kitchen!) - good work!
Was a cute and relaxing game though, great entry!
I was able to get more batter out of the visually empty mixer bowl while baking the chocolate cake after baking cupcakes. Maybe a small bug? But nothing game breaking. Can't overfill the pans anyway.
Also noticed the 1/3 missing on the unit list:

But those are just minor things I noticed. All in all great entry. Keep up the good work!
The art is cute, though I personally would've preferred a less grey kitchen. I suppose a professional bakery is all stainless steel, so it makes a bit of sense, but I craved some more colors there.
Overall just a very pleasant entry!
Perhaps a timer could be added to add some more pressure to do things fassst.
Nicely done!

The gameplay is not particularly challenging as it mostly just doing some slightly awkward conversions to BU, maybe some timers can add a bit more depth to it?
Had a lot of issues getting a hang of the game but ready the hints actually helps
Game was fun to play, even though you made me do math. I messed up and put 100BU of salt into my cake instead of 10.
Music was very relaxing and fit the game perfectly, so good addition there.
If I had any criticism it would be that some of the UI covered the fridge.

But I liked the humor in the introduction :)
