Sea Level by CarrotVan

[raw]
made by CarrotVan for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Description: Hello, I am the prototype machine, acting as your facilitator and evaluator in this test.

As you can see, the sea level in the environment is rising, Unfortunately, there is no way to stop it. But some factors affect the rate of rise, sensible actions could delay the inevitable.

If you succeed in synthesizing the escape tool before this place is completely submerged, you would pass the test. Then I will inform the planet's decision makers to implement a plan to go back 10,000 years to prevent the flooding of the planet.

Good luck! SeaLevel 202245 21023.png SeaLevel 202245 21126.png

Controls and objectives: You can click the character and move it to the specified location to gather or plant Movements and actions consume your spirit points, running out of point will result in game failure

Bushes offer fruits, which restore your spirit points and can also be used for planting Pine trees offer wood and mines offer metal, both of which can be used to make high-tech items The seeds you plant will take 3 days to grow into a pine tree or bush.

Click the day button in the bottom left corner to enter a new day At the beginning of a new day, the sea level will rise, plants will grow and spirit points will be restored when the temperature is right

Click the machine button in the lower right corner to see the current temperature and rate of sea level rise, as well as to consume materials to create three high-tech items. Robot - when you order a robot to act, it will not consume your own points Time machine - can make the sea level stop rising for 3 days Rocket - the only tool that allows you to escape from the difficult situation and win the game

Temperature affects the rate of sea level rise, the level of daily mental recovery, and the number of fruits obtained from plants. And the number of plants affects the temperature, so consider carefully the ratio of fruits to be planted and eaten. Your goal is to create a rocket that can escape from here before being completely submerged.

I like the visuals but found the game confusing without any in-game tutorials

Art and atmosphere are really solid.

The game is a bit too complex to be played without a tutorial. Character actions are confusing to choose and the game could really use some indicator about action targets (where to move, what to gather etc.). Also, in my perspective I just die randomly since I do not get any feedback on why I died.

I'm sure this game has potential and it has a lot going on for a jam game. Maybe adding a small tutorial would be the game easier to learn so the player can actually start seeing the depth of this game!

Beautiful game but it needs more instructions. I do not understand why or where i can/can't move.

Really like the graphics and opening! A bit confused about how to progress, but a great spin on the theme

So the WebGL version doesn't seem to show the entire screen. You can fix that by in Unity going to Build Settings -> Player Settings and from there setting the screen resolution to be in line with what you want.

I played the downloadable version though, and it was a decent little strategy game after I got through the first few very short attempts, figuring out what to do. The balance is very tight, with the goal being just barely achievable in my experience, which is a good thing. This game would definitely benefit from more feedback when the player does something. I found it rather unclear what was going on most of the time. The visuals are really good, though.

Looks great! Some of the menus were a little wonky but everything else worked well.

Really neat concept! I have to admit that I was very confused on what to do for the first...5 minutes? I eventually figured it out but I think some simple text like "harvest" or "plant" would have helped. Maybe the square could be outlined when you hover over it with your mouse? Anyway I felt triumphant when I succeeded at making a robot. I could see this being expanded into a bigger game? I'd be interested to see where you guys would take it. Overall I liked the concept, art style, and music. Good job!

Bit difficult to work out, I'd failed about 4 times before I saw the inventory/crafting menu. The game has nice visuals and a funny story to be thrown into. I think more of a tutorial on what actions can be taken and what causes the player to lose (using up all their energy) would make the learning curve and objective clearer.

The concept, style and music are wonderful. At first I couldn't craft anything. I closed the game, started reading the comments and gave the game a second chance! I created a robot, but after that I couldn't move on. (Would it be possible?)

Great job! I hope you will not abandon the project!
