Infection by kabloosh

[raw]
made by kabloosh for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

My 2d top down shooter game isn't finished, in fact a lot of the animations and features are broken, but I'm finally done in time! I couldn't make it to the compo because I had to switch different ideas along the way, but I hope you enjoy my game!

Objective: You've been infected by a zombie, and you must make sure you don't become one.

4/5/22: Web version is working! I've also got colliders and the player animations to work properly. Otherwise, no other features were added to affect the previous game. infection gameplay.PNG

Nice gunplay and good pixel art. There is something wrong with the web version though I get this error:

Unable to parse Build/Infection web.framework.js.br! This can happen if build compression was enabled but web server hosting the content was misconfigured to not serve the file with HTTP Response Header "Content-Encoding: br" present. Check browser Console and Devtools Network tab to debug.

Thanks @beefsock. I just fixed the web version, so now it should be playable on the web.

Cute little game! Controls well, feels super smooth. The pixel art is very pretty! I think this game would benefit from a *little* more content. A couple different guns, enemy types, maybe upgrades, etc. Another thing that would be awesome is a timer so we could see how long we managed to survive! I think you did a solid job given the time constraint. Nice work!

Nice game! Love the art style and the sound effects.

If I were you, I would of made the game harder over time.

Overall, great Game Jam!

The game is pretty fun. I liked the sprites, simple but effective. The music is good, although the loop is a bit off. The gameplay is good, with the guns feeling satisfying to shoot. It was really easy to understand what you're supposed to do. I feel that the game is a bit too easy. Maybe making the heals more scarce, making the zombies faster, or limiting ammo would help increase the difficulty. Also when you die, the game keeps your mouse hidden, making navigating the menu difficult. Despite those flaws, it was a fun game and you did a really good job at it.

Pretty fun game. The shooting was satisfying and I like the crunchy pixel art with nice thick black outlines. The sound and music were also fun and energetic. I also like how the healthbar doubles as a time limit; that's some efficient game design! I do think that the game could have used waves of increasing size to ramp things up as you go. The zombies never really posed much of a challenge, so I just sorta had to decide when to quit. The game could also use a scoring system so players have some idea of how they did. I did notice a x1 multiplier in the HUD which didn't do anything, so maybe this was a scrapped concept. But, overall, a solid little game. Nice work!

Controls are neat, and it's cute and friendly both visually and audibly. The only thing that's missing is something to engage the player to keep playing - either more content, as it was mentioned above, or gradually ramp up difficulty by spawning more zombies. And on top of that, some kind of progression indicator in a form of a timer, point counter or current difficulty. Apart from that, playing it feels great! Good job!

Your game is very responsive and the sound/animations are very good. Nice entry! If I dont die by time for sure I will spend a loot of time shoot on some zombies. If you put other guns and more enemey variation you will have a complete casual game. Contratulations.

cool game! good controls! cute art style. maybe you could have turned the player in the direction of the cursor instead of his movement. felt a bit weird when he shoot from his back :D anyway, awesome game^^ felt pretty polished for an unfinished jam game.

Simple and fun! A little bit too easy. Does it get harder? I played for 10 minutes and it seemed like it wasn't any harder than when I first started.

Simple and effective top-down shooter, and it's a bummer when you get so many ideas during the jam, in my experience it's good to do a idea run at the start and then try to execute on that even if it feels boring or weird after a day, the things you can adjust and tweak during the jam will make it fine in the end! Great that you got it up and hope you come back for more! Chainsaw Cheerz!

Cool game. Like the genre, cursor was nice and shooting was enjoyable. Agree with the others that difficulty could be higher though enemy diversity would be more engaging to keep playing. Found myself just sitting by pills at the end there, so one possibility could be to limit ammo or have to pick it up spawning guns (comically having a bunch of guns strapped over your player).

Nice shooting game. It was visually very clear and easy to understand concept. I found it quite easy to play and would have loved if the difficulty would have risen somehow. Still, well made game and fun to play.

Fun and simple concept. Could definitely use for a bit more complexity like different weapons or zombie types. Good foundation though!

Well made! The mechanics are very smooth and the art is decent. Wouldve liked it to be a bit harder, maybe with a second limiting factor like ammo. :)
