Mike Quarter (The Kitchen Porter) by Madbeagle
Background
You are Mike Quarter, a newly-hired Kitchen Porter. How long can you keep your job?
Inspired by the classic arcade game Tapper and Atari 2600 game Cakewalk.

Commodore 64
Post-jam I created a port for the C64, the greatest gaming machine ever produced.
I've decided to enter that in the Reset64 4K Craptastic compo so I can't share the game just yet, as that would disqualify it from the competition, but here's a screenshot:

Created in Unity3D

It feels really good when you get in the flow and get on top of everything, and I liked how responsive the controls were.
I think this might be better with slightly fewer conveyors, and a bit more of a limit on when you can use hold? In the current version it feels like using hold as much as possible is just too powerful of a strategy, and just slowly letting one item come along at a time.
I wonder if it would be enjoyable for the player if they can catch a falling dish, getting that "Whew! Just in the nick of time!" feeling.
The music is enjoyable and seems to fit the mood of the game just right, and the barks made me laugh. Well done on Audio!
Unfortunately, it took me awhile to figure out what the "Fire" button was. As far as I know, the mouse isn't used in the game except to click the button on the conveyor belt you're in front of at the time, and so I was trying all of the keyboard buttons that I thought made sense and even some that I didn't before I accidentally figured out to use the left mouse button.
Once I did, the challenge felt a lot better, as I could recognize that if I would have paused THIS belt at THAT time I might have done better this round. It opens up the game play a lot in a way that I didn't expect. Well done!
Nicely done! My highest score was 6559.
You have to plan a lot in advance. Really liked this mechanic.
Really enjoyed the gameplay. Wish I could mess up a few more times before losing, like maybe sending a dish down the wrong lane wasn't the same as letting one drop.
Quarter!
