Escape From Science by ryanisaacg

made by ryanisaacg for LD33 (JAM)
Play as a genetic experiment created by a weapons corporation as you try to escape the testing facility you've been locked in. Destroy other experiments, dodge bullets, and leap over explosions in over 20 different lethal puzzles.
Caveat emptor: I'm a programmer first, designer second, and definitely not an artist. The sprites aren't great and neither is the sound.

I enjoyed this quite a lot - despite the graphics being rather simple, they conveyed a decent mood and the gameplay variety was well done!

I really like the design behind the mechanics. The jump is simple but has a lot of uses. The mechanics are introduced at a reasonable pace. Nice hybrid of a puzzle/action game.

One issue: Some levels confused me because I would enter the level and have it complete 'automatically' a few seconds later. In later levels I realized that the aim was to kill all the henchmen in some levels. Was a bit confusing to start with.

A fellow Java entry!

Quite difficult in some places. I found constantly jumping made me significantly harder to hit. ;)

The jump makes the game pretty easier, even if the last level was very hard to complete. But it still lacks accuracy and I would have loved to have a shadow to avoid landing always on the spikes. I don't really know why the level full of trap tiles had a very slow framerate.

Great entry for proving that you don't need fancy graphics to make something mechanically satisfying.

Favourite moments:
- Seeing the "all trap" level for the first time and thinking "oh damn gotta move". I was really hoping to use those traps to kill a group of red guys but it never came up.
- Figuring out that I can use the mine in the last level to blow up a turret.
- As soon as I completed, the soundtrack did the long epic note, which I assume was a coincidence but REALLY felt like a great ending mood.

Only bugs were the low framerate for the all trap level and that when moving on any diagonal other towards the top-right I couldn't jump, which made the last level harder than it needed to be for me. Neither of these issues stopped me from enjoying your game though. Thank you!
