Just 5 more minutes by stoffe

made by stoffe for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Getting up in the morning is inevitable, but waking up in the middle of a dream is always a bummer. When the alarm goes off snoozing for a while is always an option. But eventually reality always catches up to you.

Goal: Fight your way through dreamland and collect clocks to gain more precious REM sleep. When you run out of time you can gain more time by pressing the snooze button.

Controls: - Movement: WASD/Arrow keys - Attack: Left mouse button - Open Menu: ESC - Toggle Music: M

Update 6/4/22: - Added health bar to enemies and visual cue to player so it's easier to see when the enemies/player is hit - Fixed various collision detection errors for the player and enemies (the player would take damage even if the attacks didn't hit)

Awesome entry! I think there's lack of sound, maybe that's a detail from the game from the dreams, the music is very good and the art aswell, in combat i think there could be more feedback from when you get hit or enemy dies, great work! :v:

I really like the different dream monsters trying to wake you up. Needs some more feedback on when things are happening to you or the monsters. I also enjoyed the monsters saying stuff and wish more of them had funny lines.

Really nice take on the theme! The movement and attacks could use some tweaking to feel more satisfying, but I had a wonderful time snoozing <3

Really nice, relaxing game. The music fits nicely, and the concept is cool. I would maybe recommend that something more happens whether a small auditory or visual cue when you defeat an enemy. Overall, a really nice game!

I like the variety of dream monsters trying to disrupt my sleep. Moving into the different rooms kept it exciting. The movement and attack controls worked well. Great job!

Thanks for all the feedback.

@ds-nahogara, @andrewdt100, @firescape-games, @gravityflip, added visual cues like you suggested, it in turn exposed collision detection bugs but they are fixed now 😅

lovely little game with a very relatable theme which i like. would be nice to see some movement animations in the future as it looks like youre gliding but the controlls were very smooth

What a nice song to hear. I had a lot of fun playing and the music matched the setting a lot.

For top down games like this I always recommend putting some power ups, because sometimes it's very difficult when a giant wave of enemies comes, and we don't have much to do but shoot, and in this case the shooting range is very small , which complicates matters further.

But the idea was very well implemented, I loved the snooze mode option.

Congratulations!

Chilling game, love audio, pixel art are cool.
I would rebalance it a little, as You can often just stand and shoot, and still gather enogh time to be on plus.

Nice little experience! I like how it fit the theme with having to wake up eventually!

Good job, keep going!

Games a whole vibe, fits the theme well. Music was good, the second I started the game I just kinda felt put at ease. It's a cool concept, the gameplay is what suffers the most out of it all but the simplicity of it just added to the vibe tbh. I thought the snooze button was a very thematic addition as well. Good game!

this... cute! Scary monsters from dreams do not scare away, but amuse... heh heh
.
There are not enough effects and recoil from monsters. There is not enough variety in the mechanics of combat.
.
For an interesting look, for an idea - like! keep up the good work! I'm waiting for new projects or this completed one!

The concept is very interesting and cute, but I think the graphics and mechanics needs more polishing. The yellow typography over the green grass is not a good idea, and it's hard to read on the bottom part of the menu as well. The shooting feels a little tough. Also, I think it would be a nice detail to put a sound effect when the alarm starts.

Thanks for that insight with the UI colors. Next time I will pay attention to make sure that the UI and the game actually work well together :-)

Super cute game! I found the graphics charming and the music was very relaxing! I liked your take on the theme as well it's very relatable! The player movement is very interesting, I think within the context of a dream, it makes sense, but it feels perhaps a little too fast, making it feel more like you're driving by the enemies instead of walking or running by. Anyways overall solid entry!

This is very relatable and it's an amazing idea centered around the theme! The music and the level really feels dreamish and abstract. Great job everyone on the team! I think adding that annoying alarm sound when the time is up would be funny.

This is a great concept! I loved sheep's attack :D Music is very fitting, but I wish there were some sound effects and some animations. I really liked the map and that there are multiple enemy types. Good work! ^_^

Nice tacking of the theme! The music fits very well and little details like terrain, monsters and clocks fit each other. Somehow I always got swept away by a whole bunch of monsters, and not the time lack, but it was still fun running away from them and having them follow you like train coaches) Good job!

My stream got muted for copyrighted music from your game...

@gdesecrate That is weird. We used Garageband for it, and those loops are copyright free.

@gdesecrate, I'm sorry to hear that. :-(

Like @kat said, there should be no problem using GarageBand since the loops in GarageBand are royalty free and you can use them to compose songs.
My guess is that the copyright AI of Youtube/Twitch flagged the music because somebody has released a song using the same loops as we did.

Really good take on the theme! Gameplay was unique enough and enjoyable.

It could benefit from making the attack animation a little faster or changing it to a longer-range attack, because right now it's really hard to walk around and aim without taking damage myself. It's not as unique, but this style of game really does benefit from letting you fire a lot of shots that travel fairly far. You often need to change the direction of your attacks on a whim, and the attack here is stuck in one direction for just a bit too long.

Otherwise, again, this is a really solid entry.
