I did a Lava thing too (mine is a sideview platformer thing).

Wish you had more build options, perhaps you ran out of time? This could be expanded. A quick thought, for example, having different shaped structures that you can rotate before placing, a bit like Tetris. So the goal is to pack them in as tightly as possible and not leave any space. The next structure spawns randomly (like Tetris) to make it more difficult.

Really liked how you did the lava but I'm not sure I understood the game. The defenses I was building didn't seem to do much, or at least it wasn't as visible as it could be. Also had about 50 of them by the end of the first level but not space to put them as I'd been overrun.

@wavertron you have a nice game too! TBH the way the lava is implemented is very fragile so I've needed to dismiss any more permanent structures to avoid lava's flickering. Nothing unsolvable but not in the given time.

@taffaz Thanks a lot! I think the design bug became a feature and having a lot of structures that you can't place or that are doing only little to stop the disaster adds a bit of a dark thought on how hopeless your faith is (only in this game, life is beautiful!). Imagine being one of the citizens producing those walls when you keep doing it while it can't help you anymore!

The lava effect was nice and the pixel art style is is pretty good but beyond placing a ton of the little structures wherever I could I wasn't sure what else to do. That's lava for you though, inevitable  Made it to just short of 3 minutes. Nice work!

I'm kinda with the others here - the aesthetic of the game was really nice, but I too found myself just placing as many structures as I could whenever I could. The inevitable death fits with the theme though :)

I enjoyed the concept and could see lots of potential for different structures, maps, etc. Congrats!

I don't think I was quite sure how to play the game. Was I supposed to put the structures on the lava's path? I didn't notice the lava slowing down but I am not quite sure.

I really liked how you implemented the spread of lava. That was very cool. I wonder how it works? Great job!

As others pointed out, having some more in-game interaction would be nice. But from what you wrote, I get what you were going for with this game. Sound effects are a bit much, in my opinion, but the pixel art is quite nice. It looks like this is your first Ludum Dare, so nice job with making a game in such a short amount of time :)

Very similar to my game :D Nice graphics, the green plus sound is kinda irritating. Overall very nice :)

Not a bad idea but a tad slow.

This is a decent entry, overall. I feel like the game suffers from a lack of direction, though-I'm guessing the structures block/slow down the lava? Regardless, the controls worked well. I did feel like the sound effect for stuff burning was a little uncomfortable with how low and distorted it is, but the other sound effect for gaining more settlements was quite satisfying. Overall, this is a nice compo entry.
