Shadow Rush by Brandsma

Description
Shadow Rush is a racing game about running from your past. As we all know too well the past will inevitably come back to haunt you. Shadow rush presents a racing game where you race across multiple tracks whilst your former self comes after you. Try to evade the ghosts as long as you can and set the best records!
About us
We are a team of three friends from the Netherlands who love making games and programming. We wanted to make as much of the game on our own as we could. Just how much we did you can see below. We hope you all enjoy our little game, and maybe, just maybe, if you enjoy our game leave a like/comment. We also love to hear feedback! :)
About our game
- Built with Unity
- All textures are fully custom made
- All sound effects are custom made, however the songs heard when racing and on the menu are:

Game looks and feels satisfying and its fun to play. Controls are good, level designs are nice.
I'm not a big fan of the sounds but overall really good.
The shadow-time cars were done really nice and fit the theme nicely.
Thanks for playing!
The ghost mechanic was an interesting take on the theme, but the fact that it one shot you is a bit harsh imo. I really sucked at avoiding them.
Maybe it could be interesting to slow the player down instead, and make the time to complete the laps a defeat condition ? You still have the same time to cross the finish line, but it gets harder and harder as you add ghosts.
It well made, the driving is smooth and enjoyable.
I was a bit confused at first, and thought the goal was to do the finish every time before your past ghosts. But then I've been hit by one and my car disappear and nothing happened... Going back to main menu and then trying again level 1 didn't really help because I wasn't able to control my car. After restating and testing another level, all worked fine again. So level 1 seems to be messed up (I'm on linux by the way).
The night cycle is a really good idea to add some variations to the driving (trying to be more careful at night, pushing you to reduce your speed.)
Nice Audio FX :p Ad a like the aesthetic of you pixelart.
Thanks for this real good game !
Apart from that, the graphics are great and the music fits the game perfectly.
I honestly don't have much to complain about. Maybe that instructions could by more clearer (especially about ghosts )and that level 1 is a bit buggy, but from what I've seen, you already know that ;d
I didn't use the drift button ever cause I didn't feel like I needed it.
Weird thing about the ghosts, they only make me want to drive slower and slower each lap as they become more numerous. If they were faster than me it would have increased the panic and intensity overall.
This is very enjoyable, and a great take on the theme. I love the graphics, especially the day/night cycle with the ghost cars' eerie red headlights during the nighttime. It's also very atypical for a racing game in that you're encouraged to take different paths and racing lines so that the same sections of track don't get clogged with ghosts.
One little bug I found is that the level intro you're shown corresponds to how many levels you've played, not which actual level you're playing. I played Level 1 to get to grips with the game, skipped to Level 5 because I thought the track layout looked interesting, and it showed me the intro for Level 2. Level 1 also doesn't give you an explicit game over when you get hit, you're just left sitting there until you think to press Escape.
Overall, though, I really enjoyed this. Looking forward to trying out the map editor!
Really neat take on the theme, and the controls were super slick and really polished!
I think I found a bug in the tutorial level, when I died no prompt or anything came up, after 30 seconds or so I manually exited to the main menu to continue playing.
Really enjoyed playing your game! (also, the countdown sound FX were hilarious)
A well executed little driving game which in itself isn't anything unheard of, but I really liked how you implemented it with all the controls, and I'm generally not a person that plays too much driving games, but this one I quite enjoyed :) (I think I'm a control freak and seeing everything just suits me better than driving in FPS xD)
I also really loved that you're driving + seeing your ghost, kind of reminded me of trackmania nations, but you're the enemy ^^ (yeah okay, I play that one.. but only on Lan Parties and it's so silly, it doesn't count :D)
I needed a couple of laps to getting used to the controls, but even that part was fun :))
I was really motivated to keep getting better and who knew my drifting game would step up to a level that'd make even Vin Diesel green with jealousy :b
You have this thing that a lot of gamejam games do, which is having the controls oriented to the character perspective and not the world perspective which makes it a little less intuitive, but I think your game is the one where it bothered me the least/not really (maybe it even adds more fun, idk, would have to see that to tell)
Graphics we're cute, audio was amazing and fitting (I see you're not getting yourself rated for the audio, so great find!) and the feedback from driving also felt good!
Good job guys :)
