Bussin by bitdecay

[raw]
made by bitdecay for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

PromoImage.png You've taken a job at a local French restaurant as a busser, cause someone has to clean up after the customers. There is a catch however. The boss is notoriously brutal on the staff. Bus those tables but be careful to not drop any dishes. Disturb the customers, and you're gone.

A delicate touch is the key to success.

Features - Physics playbox - Achievements!

CONTROLS - This game only uses the mouse - Click to grab stuff - Release to drop stuff

Well done! I guess I need to work a little on my stacking skills. :)

Quite amusing. QWOP-ish in its gameplay. Good one!

Really interesting take on the theme, fun gameplay, wonky physics- although that does add to the fun, grabbing does get a bit awkward when there's multiple layers close by though. Overall great job!

I am terrible at this game! But its fun, and definitely an innovative take on the theme. If I had to make a suggestion, I would say to give a more accurate idea of where you're going to grab, as a lot of my failures were because I coulda sworn I was picking up the plate but instead flung a shot glass into space 😉 stellar game though, well done

@battletoast @joedev we had originally had the grabbing much more precise, but that had its own issues (namely that grabbing things like forks and spoons very difficult). So we made it a little more lenient. Thank you for the feedback, and thanks for playing!

Guys, I could not play - several times I've tried, I've seen only black screen after LD logo.:(

This is one those games I could play for hours and not get bored just constantly trying to beat my last score. Well done, I really like this game.

Quite the amusing little game. Physics are rather impressive, especially on the food. Why did you put dumplings in all the glasses?

Love the idea and how you've done the controls of holding the food. Fits theme well considering the impossible outcome of the stacked up stuff!

It was a fun game while it worked. It seems like the physics kinda break at times and freezes the game.

I loved this! Such an awesome game. And beautiful sound, really well done. Great job. Best game I've played in the jam yet.

Neat idea!

The physics are chaotic to a point of being frustrating, but the game is so lighthearted and quick to retry that you kinda just don't care and have fun with it anyway.

Audio cues and music add a nice atmosphere, and the little touches like the gentle sway of the waiter's arm and the cloth physics really help sell it.

Nice work!

Oui oui! As an ex-"busser" myself, this brings back memories. I just want to swing those bottles all day!

Simple, and really fun! I absolutely loved the cup physics in this, even though they were the hardest things to stack >:]

One of my favorite entries of the jam so far, great work!

Wish I had a touchscreen to play this on! Definitely liked the feel of the physics, especially the soft-body food, although it did have a tendency to flip out and explode. Also a big fan of the specificity of the achievements. Nice work, all!

Aside from some weird physics bugs, with the spinning, it was really cool. The goals were far out of reach for me, but I still enjoyed the fun of stacking weird objects. Needs more insults by customers toward the player!

It's Diner Dash meets QWOP

Ugh, this game is so tantalizing with the amount of achievements it has, but is so brutally unfair in the instability of the physics. Am I playing it wrong? Is this the way it's supposed to be?

We'll never know.

In any case, I actually adore what you made and I would unironically come back if the game was just 15% more forgiving to the player (larger tray? solidified positions of trayed objects when new tables come in? Remove the wobbling tray hand?)

I had fun, and was really impressed with this entry. Great job, and best of luck!

Fewer things have brought me the same level of joy in this jam as when I accidentally yeeted a shot glass and it spun out of existence on the first try of this game. It's hysterical! There's no way in hell I'm reaching a goal but what a game. Sent it to my team so they can all ~~suffer~~ struggle with me.

A bit of audio feedback was that the ambience was just a bit too loud--maybe a little less restaurant chatter and a little more of the music in the mix? The breaking SFX were on point--loved that.

@adamcyounis sorry that the physics didn't behave for you. We did include a slightly easier tray that you can enable in the settings menu. But it seems like the weird physics has been an issue with a lot of people (especially on the soft-body physics that seem to become sentient and fly off the screen on their own accord sometimes). We also noticed some of our computers had a harder time with the physics than others, so maybe it just didn't like your browser/OS in particular. We might try a different physics engine next time to see if we can fix this problem for future physics-based games (we used Nape with Haxe, in case other are wondering). We really appreciate you playing our game, and also I'm a huge YT fan, really love your work. Thanks for doing what you do!

This is a lot of fun. Even if the boss doesn't fire me I should probably quit on health and safety grounds as I was enjoying swinging the food around a bit too much. Fun physics, nice visuals and chill audio.

I love the physics on the eggs and pudim (the seemingly sweet soft thing), this is so much fun when you try to do like those videos where they turn the bottles in the air so they fall standing

I like to throw every food on the ground to keep only "easy" stuff to stack. I was fired a lot of time so maybe I need retraining if I don't want to leave outside :p . Otherwise the game is kite polish and I like the picking concept. Sometime physic is a bit weird, item jump with no reason or food go throught item but it's not a real problem indeed. Nice entry ! The fact that we can pick up stuff that are flying due to a bad move is quite enjoyable !

Nice game ! It's hard to make physic based game fun but you've manage to do it.
The french dinner mood is well done, the graphics are really nice.

I consistenty get fired after a single table! This is hilariously chaotic, and stays fun even though I'm awful at it!

Oh I always love a physics based game! Everything worked as expected and it looks nice! I would have liked to be able to choose not to use some of the things on the right table, and get a new set of items. Really nice that you added achievements!

At first, for some reason, I could destroy as many items as I wanted (had fun with that ) but then after reloading it worked as it should've. Nice entry, physics were good but it kept spinning sometimes when I grabbed something  I did 17 items max, thought I could do more, but I accidentally knocked a bottle from the table, oops :flushed: Good job, happy to see another HaxeFlixel game here
