THE GAMEWitch.png

Fables are written before the lonely adventurer takes their first step down the long road they will travel. We readers know that there are some things one just does not do: Make friends with a werewolf. Steal from dragons. Approach a quiet hut that lies hidden in a dark forest. And yet approach he did. He crossed her threshold. He dared speak to her. https://hiddentaverngames.itch.io/fables-ld50

HOW TO PLAY

Your task is simple -- keep the crows from eating the wheat for three days. How hard could it be?

CONTROLSBookPages.png

Controls? You’re a scarecrow! You’re lucky you can move at all. We’ll let you have A/D to move. Now quit complaining and get to work.

A lot of fun, found myself yelling at the birds to get off my crops, like a real farmer! I love narrative games, this was short but enjoyable. Well done!

Simple but effective idea guys, but maybe character speed can be a little bit faster or animations maybe a little bit smoother. Overall I had fun, good job guys :)

Simple and nice game, maybe I would have liked a little more variety in the movement. But a good game nonetheless!

This is a beautifully crafted short experience. The palette fits in quite well and the graphics are retro/stunning. The audio design is great and the book experience makes this an engaging experience.

Almost repelled all those birds. :-)
Cute game. Nice pixelart and enjoyable story.

Lovely game, nice variant on the falling fruit/basket gameplay (not sure what to call them). Interesting how the slow scarecrow movement forced you to prioritize crows instead of getting them all. I liked the twist on the theme reveal at the end, I definitely felt like I could protect that wheat forever. The art and sound effects gave that slow, farm life feel, reminiscent of walking out of your house on a Stardew Valley morning.

An elegant game with cute art. The audio wasn't very memorable, however. But still a good game!

Cool game but i believe it could have been better. The character speed is a bit slow while there are no exported versions to work with windows/mac/linux. The music is relaxing by the way :-).

Nice setting and story telling, move speed is just slow enough to stress you out about the incoming crows and where they're headed haha, All round great entry, Good Job Team!

Now, i want to start by saying i wasn't a big fan of the gameplay itself, it really does feel like i'm just walking left and right. I wanted to start with that because i don't want it to take away from all the things i liked here, the style choices were great, the pixel art, the book presentation, the little twist at the end, all the sound effects were on point, the amount of menu-ing available... not the most fun game, but certainly one of the most well executed ones, it really blows my mind cause these little executions are the hardest part of gamedev for me and here it's just superb, great entry for sure!

Level 1: This isn't too bad. Not a lot of crows
Level 2: A few more, okay
Level 3: SO MANY CROWS!

I enjoyed it. It was satisfying to see the mass amount of crows flee in the 3rd level.

My first reaction was to try to shoot the birds like on NES game Duck Hunt.

Nice execution!

Fantastic!
Such a complete, nice, innovative, wholesome, enjoyable game!
Very well implemented, nice controls (thx for including controller!).
Very nice fitting graphics! Scary fable. Horrific birds - it felt like Hitchcock's "The Birds" towards the end.
And cool you decided to end it! Felt like I wanted to play again. Probably, if it would just have continued I would have stopped.
Overall a very holistic game! Congratulations!

I loved the art style and the menu designs! Grandma is so mean tho :( I'm glad it didn't overstay its welcome, more hopping with more crows would've gotten boring eventually. Most submissions seem to have gone the route of 'game ends when you die', so this is a welcome change! Overall, this is a great submission, and it feels really polished. I hope you had fun making it, cuz I had fun playin! Congrats :D

Really good game. The art is great and the menu is suuuuper cool. It would be great to have music and to have power ups, like speeding up. But its a very good entry, congrats!
