MacBooler by kromeboy

Immagine.jpg Help us MacBooler the bomb is about to explode!

This game is inspired by the Saturday Night Live sketch "MacGruber".

Here is how to play:

While is impossible to defuse this bomb you can "delay the inevitable" by performing boolean additions as fast as you can.

What is a boolean addition? Just like a regular addiction but on base two.

On each column, you have two LEDs and a switch. Led On = 1, Led Off = 0. Switch Up = 1 Switch Down = 0

Here are all the possible combinations:

0+0=0 (switch down) 0+1=1 (switch up) 1+1=10 (switch down, carry one) 1+0+0=1 (switch up) 1+1+0=10 (switch down, carry one) 1+1+1=11 (switch up, carry one)

Big praise for the theme song alone. Took this game from a solid bomb defusing experience to one truly transcending reality. Graphics are nice, I love the randomly chosen locations and the leaderboard is a really good idea (even though I apparently suck at binary addition and can't even get close to those scores lol)

The only negative I could give is that the switches don't reset when you solve a problem, meaning you can't just go back to doing left to right addition as easily.

Cool idea and interesting take on bomb defusal, mixed with mathmatics. Good work!

Love the audio. Once you get a hand on the mechanics it really scratches the puzzle itch.

good concept, stressful enough to keep tension, well done!

Perhaps my early morning brain is too smooth to understand how to do this, but I definitely struggled with understanding how the game is supposed to play (I do know how boolean math works, normally, but I just couldn't figure this one out). The sounds and music were definitely a highlight on this though.

@doomshmuck I think i will publish a video tutorial for the game, and maybe include it in the game in a post jam version

Haha, I loved this game. The audio was relly funny, and the game was very fun to play. I love how much panic I felt as the characters kept reminding me of the time ticking down. I will admit that I switched srtrategy to "educated guessing" when I got stressed. Great idea, and a well made game!

That's some serious binary operations! Very difficult but fun!

very good for brushing up my binary operation skills, feels like something that would work well in a classroom! also the voice acting is very funny lol.

Really nice entry! Took me a solid while to understand the game mechanics, but once I did, the game felt great! If you want to continue this post-jam, an in-game tutorial would be nice, or some sort of practice mode where you can interactively see what your actions actually do, to attempt to match your set of lights with the target set of lights. A solid entry, congrats!

Well... not much to say! Great game and very fun to play.

Maybe a little guided tutorial stage where you have to solve some two/three column LEDs would be nice, so you let non-developers understand what to do.

The voice acting cracked me up. A video tutorial would definitely be useful, not only to teach people boolean addition, but to explain the interface a little better. I found myself wishing there was an untimed practice mode too. Nice graphics and the sense of urgency you get from the voice acting / flickering lights is nice. Interesting game!

Took a while to get into it, but after that it was pretty addicting. Great work!

Tons of fun with this game.

A very educative one. After this LD many people will have learned binary algebra XD.

The voice acting is fantastic

I realised my binary addition is not as strong as it could be.....once you go past one carry, sheesh!

Well, today I learned what boolean addition is :D Got to 120. Quite addicting! Pretty good and unique idea. Good fit with the theme. Music on/off button was a nice addition, but I would have liked to disable sound effects as well as it gets annoying after a while you hear the same thing!

It took me a while, but once I got it, this became what might be my favorite game of LD 50! Couldn't stop until I got a leaderboard spot at 260

Cool concept, I was flipping all the switches but nothing seemed to happen. Sound fx / dialogue was cool though.

Whew, it took me a while to get it but when I did I had a lot of fun! Definitely needs a good tutorial, yeah 😅 Familiar with MacGyver of course, so this was fun from that perspective too. Got a lot of laughs from the voice clips. Music perhaps wasn't the best I've heard but it somehow fit quite well. Textures are a bit blurry but going 3D was cool. It really is all about the gameplay and the humour in this one and you did great there. Very cool and unique!!
