Bomb Threat by Lychee

[raw]
made by Lychee for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

Solve as many puzzles as you can before the bomb detonates! Each puzzle you solve extends the clock, but each puzzle you fail cuts your time shorter.

Inspired by Keep talking and Nobody Explodes. I wanted to have more puzzles in the game but I ended up having a late start and didn't quite have time for everything I wanted. I also didn't really have time to balance it much. I wanted to hone my 3d skills a bit so it was a good learning experience!

I found your game on Twitter--so glad you posted there, otherwise I might have missed this!

I have to say I really liked the concept, and for a jam, it works great. I think the inclusion of more puzzles and a balancing system would suit this well. I got to solve 50 puzzles but had so much time that I never really felt like I was in peril. So in that sense, it felt a little far from the theme in execution, but the concept is spot on.

@teenythanos Thanks for playing! I actually wanted to have closer to 6-8 puzzles but time got the best of me unfortunately. I agree on the balance also, I think the game is pretty easy as is.

Great game if you ever have a real bomb give me a call. Don't ask me how long it took to get this:

Could not for the life of me get the stop puzzle lol. Puzzles were neat and fun to have a decode book :)

Very fun to try to get more efficient. I feel I beat the game once I can delay the clock indefinitely. got it up to 120~ seconds and noticed it wasn't getting any harder, I think perhaps slowly increasing difficulty would be good to implement, so eventually failing is more inevitable. Overall, great game. Thanks for the good play!

Really fun and executed game overall. Once you go through most puzzles, its pretty easy to go indefinitely. Perhaps the difficult could increase either by decreasing the time for each puzzle? or making the puzzles progressively harder. Great game though!

The game is fun an addictive (my record was 10 puzzles).

I always struggle with the sequence of four symbols. I have no clue of which is the first in the sequence and have to try randomly.

I can see myself having tons of funs with this game when more puzzles are added. Well done!.

I like the style, I agree with most of the other comments that the game could benefit from more modules. I liked the take on the theme. You absolutely nailed the KTANE aesthetic. Well done!

Managed to get 22 puzzles. Enjoyed the game overall. The graphics and feel of the buttons, sound effects were particularly good, if a little loud and repetetive. The second pass of lining the arrow up with the circle seemed to be the most difficult of the three puzzles, and by quite a margin, especially since the line would occasionally seem to get stuck at the end of the screen.

Fun game! I really like the concept, and enjoyed being a bit on my toes when starting the game. Unfortunately though, the low amount of puzzles made me soon memorize both the button puzzle and and the green scanning lines. This meant that I could only have the button sequence page up and quickly solve puzzles. I was up to 420 seconds on the timer when I stopped . Great looking game though, and it certainly has a good mood to it. Please tag me if you ever add more puzzles, I would love to play it again! Great job!

Thank you for the feedback everyone! I think I have ideas of what I would fix if I made a second build after the jam, mainly having more puzzles and shortening the time you gain as you solve more puzzles.

And yeah @olimarrex that was a bug that I didn't catch until after I uploaded :( I'm not sure what causes it honestly but it's definitely not intended.

It looks really great! I hate puzzle with green dot and riding lines, but that was the most funny puzzle as well

That one stop-the-line puzzle was much meaner than the other two! But then, I was able to get the other two practiced up enough that I was gaining time on them, so I suppose it's good to have at least one that eats up time instead and stops you from just playing indefinitely. Personal best: 63!

Agree on what some others have wrote, I mostly stumbled with aligning the lines with the stop button... A really fun idea and good implementation, and I think if you have the time and energy afterwards to add some puzzles it may improve the replayability and add good variation. Nice work.
