I really loved the "fly for your life" lyrics in the game. Super great. I think the graphics would be much better if you used the aesthetic for the emery cubes for everything. the cubes looked great! The ground could be some synthwavey parallel lines on a dark background, or a series of cubes of different sizes, something like that. In any case well done on completing the game.

@david-york At one point I actually had the ground looking like synthwave scrolling lines/squares! I wanted the ground to look a bit more realistic but I'm not an artist.

Great game. Reminds me a bit of raptor back in the dos days :D.

Really cool graphics in this and I love the music. It really needs some power-ups or some kind of progression. :)

Great idea @extar, thanks! I didn't like the theme and really struggled to get something done. I felt like I was forced to make a game where you had to fail. Maybe I leaned a bit TOO hard on the theme. I wrote about my progress in a post that you can find in my feed: https://ldjam.com/users/denatus/feed

It gives off an intense vibe of shareware games from the early 2000s which is very nostalgic.

I love it. This game bring me back to my childhood and my first contact with this awesome industry. Great work!

Definitely agree with all of the other reviews on nostalgia. The difficulty curve was a bit off and I feel like the hitbox on the ship was just a touch in the unfair category. However, this was aesthetically and sonically pleasing for sure. SHMUPs are so fun and a great choice for a game jam. Always enjoyable and engaging and it obviously fits the theme well.

Reminds me of games from 2000 made with Flash ! I loved those so much
Simple game but yet effective. I like that the enemies are chasing you.
Nice job !

I enjoyed the audio (music and sfx), and the enemy sprites, though simple, had a neon flair to them. Controlled well, too.

Would probably have benefited from more variety in gameplay, and it felt a little unsatisfying that dodging was useless.

@jovialknoll I guess I nailed the theme then since death was inevitable! :smirk:

Seems like a quintessential shoot em up. I think it could use a bit of variety to really become something of its own. But I really liked the visual style and the music! The ship movement was good too. Nicely done! I survived for 44 seconds.

@diego-escalante Thank you! I've not seen anybody made it past 45 seconds yet. What I've learned from other game jams is that people don't play your game for that long so I made it sweet and short. But this one was perhaps a little too short!

Quite a basic game but polished enough for what it is (I like the voice lines in the music also). I think some enemy types or powerups would have helped to give the game some more variety though.

Really nice game! I loved all the particle effects. The music was also quite good (especially the voice line). It took me a long time to realize I could shoot with Ctrl, but otherwise, good entry!

At first I flew straight at the first enemy because it looked like a typical powerup in shooters :D
Nice gameplay mechanics. Some of the art looks nice, some look not so nice :D
Maybe a more coherent art style would have been the best choice. Music was great! Sound effects worked well too.
Nice entry overall.
