Lavapocalypse by Florian van Strien

[raw]
made by Florian van Strien for Ludum Dare 50 (JAM)

The Orb of Power, a marvel of technology, has the ability to generate energy from the world itself. However, the end times are upon us! The world is sinking into endless lava and monsters have risen from the depths of the world! It is up to you to defend the Orb of Power as long as possible from the onslaught of calamity. Survive as long as possible and get the highest score.

BUT HOW

Create a resource building package by clicking its icon in the lower left. Left click the resulting package drone and right click an island with resources. The resources are: Wood, Scrap, Crystals, and Monster Ooze. The resource building will automatically gather resources from its island. You need to get those resources to your central storage to use them! You do this by creating gatherer drones and assigning them to get the resources from a resource building. They will automatically transport them to the tower or storage building. Use explorer drones to pick up the blue orbs for useful upgrades and to explore the world. Use attacker drones to deal with the fearsome enemies wandering around. You'll need to build the explorer and attacker modules respectively before you can build these last 2 drones. Good luck!

Wow, The scope of this game is incredible for a jam game! The depth of the gameplay is seriously intense. It took me a couple minutes to realize I was playing a pretty fully featured RTS and had to get my mind into a Starcraft-mode.

Love the music, love the lava, love the fog of war

I'm extremely hooked to this game. Amazing art and gameplay design. I must expand into every single island now.

Lol, I joked with some friends about making an RTS during the jam and they said it was impossible. Well, I'm showing them... your game. Impressive! :)

You won't find a lot of strategy games here on Ludum Dare. Very nice game! The gameplay is developing quite slowly at first, but it is worth waiting :)

In general I thought it was very good, it is a complete game and very interesting to play for a long time. I would only polish the artistic section more to make it look more interesting, good job!

To build a full scale strategy game as a part of a jam - that's cool!
It took me significant time to understand how should it work, but when I understood (at least something) it become very fun!

Wow, probably the best game I've seen on this jam. But I really do like RTS, so I'm a little biased here

It was very enjoyable, and will definitely play it again. Hopefully you expand because there's potential.

Seems like a very cool concept, but I had trouble figuring out how to do much. Tried sending out some gathering drones but it didn't seem like they could pick up anything I hovered / right clicked on.

I found that this game was very impressive. I like the premise as well as how you approached the idea of delaying the impending doom of your tower.

Possibly making it so your drones are not capable of running into each other so it doesn't make gathering resources a longer task. When I have more time, I want to try to get better at this game.

Well done :)

Great game! It hooked me right from the beginning. Only when I lost the first time I realized that I can distinguish the resources from what the islands have on them. Well done!!

Woah, super super cool RTS! I agree the drones running into eachother was cumbersome, but it didn't detract too much. I found the rate of sinking to be a bit unbalanced. It seemed like the time between "oh I need to do something" and "I'm dead" was a bit short - I wanted to play more! I found the randomly spawning enemies a bit annoying as well. It was sometimes difficult to select and disperse attack drones to deal with them, though I suppose this might be a me issue. I got to 19,300 on my final attempt, compared to somewhere in the 13000s on my second attempt, and I guess I just wanted to be able to get better! Really cool though and I liked the aesthetic a lot!
