Fort Postremus by Erukolindo

[raw]
made by Erukolindo for Ludum Dare 50 (EXTRA)

An unfinished 1-map TRPG about fighting an unwinnable battle.

Play using the mouse. Blue squares indicate tiles you can move to, red squares indicate enemies you can attack. Player turn ends automatically when you exhaust movement for all your characters, you can also end it manually. You can open the statistics window to see statistics of the current character, the weapon they are using, and the tile they are standing on. Certain tiles can reduce damage taken or regenerate HP. When attacking the enemy, they will counterattack if the attacking unit is in the range of their weapon. Then, if one of the units fighting is significantly faster, they will attack again.

The goal is to survive for as long as possible, though due to a lack of time I didn't implement a proper turn counter or a detection of when you lose your last unit.

There's no sound as I cannot figure out why it doesn't work with HTML5.

I got barely anything done during the first two days, and what little I made I discarded at the start of the third day as I was unhappy with how it turned out. Meaning that everything save for the character sprites was done today. As a result, while I'm positively surprised by the amount of work I managed to get done, I'm also tired of this project. There are two features I didn't have time to implement but would make the game much better: proper pathfinding for enemies and an ability to switch equipped weapons.

This was supposed to be an entry to the Jam format, but I lost internet connection 1 hour before the deadline and was unable to submit because of that.

I think some sort of explanation of gameplay would really help here

This looks like a really interesting game! It would need some more explaination and a clear goal. I had fun for a while trying to position my units smartly, but after a while the enemy turns took a lot of time I died really quickly.

I found a bug: when you click end turn twice or more before the enemies finish moving, strange things happen, e.g. enemies move into walls sometimes
