Melda: The misunderstood by lintfordpickle

[raw]
made by lintfordpickle for LD33 (COMPO)
For this entry I used LWJGL 3.0 and InkScape.

I really had trouble trying to think of a good idea for this theme, and even up to the end I'm not really happy with my choice.

I decided to try and make a classic zelda-esque gameplay game (not in scope only in mechanics!) where you would be the monster instead of the hero while trying to defend your home. I wanted to try and convey the idea that the world viewed you as a monster although you begin the game innocent of crime - but I never really got around to fleshing out any narrative.

I managed to finish a full gameplay loop (start-play-die-repeat), albeit without any sounds.

Have fun!

The idea is, while not being really innovative, is fun. What hurts the gameplay is a poor implementation of collisions, where player gets stuck in the walls all the time. For an action game like this, it really hurts the fun factor.

The graphics are nice, although the rooms could use a little bit of color. The lack of sound makes the game feel really unfinished, you should use some sort of sound generator like Bfxr next time to add at least some placeholder sounds.

Overall, keep working the game and someday it might become a very fun Zelda clone!

The camera scroll speed when you change rooms felt really slow. And the game is really difficult, enemy bullets are really hard to avoid. Some easy melee enemy maybe at the start could have given it a good difficulty scale. But i really like the Graphics it looks really good!

Wasn't able to make it to the end (though part of it was likely not having my mouse with me), had fun nonetheless. The collision with the walls seemed a bit odd, but otherwise it's a solid game, though admittedly lacking in variety (again, this might be because I didn't make it far enough).

-Not bad. There's a little problem with the visibility layer, but the overall is pretty good.
-I personally like darker color for a dungeon.
-I liked it. It's funny. Good work!!

Not sure it's even possible to make it to the end. Those human bullets hurt.

Thanks for the comments so far.
The values assigned to the enemies like bullet speed are slightly randomised, so some runs through the level will be easier than others.

Quite a nice little game, enjoyed the graphics however the lack of audio was a minus, using the mouse to aim was nice (meaning the game was 'very PC'). It became difficult fairly quickly which annoyed me cuz I was enjoying myself quite a bit. I replayed and killed one person on purpose to test if a grammar error would occur and it did; that being "killed 1 people that day". However, I don't mean to be a grammar nazi, and I very much enjoyed this game. Well done! :)

@AnaglyphCoding: Doh! and I was consciously thinking about the grammar for a single kill on the end of the last day and I forgot to fix it, such a simple thing as well :)

Nice art style and animation. Reminded me of a happy Binding of Isaac.

Quite a fun game, there are some bugs on collisions (bullets), but it's fun to play.

The graphics, done in Inkscape, are really nice, though there's a small "bleed" in the hunter's walking animation (probably wasn't aligned when exported).

Nice attention to the details on your "rank" when killing 0 and more monsters, adds a nice touch of humor to the game. :3

Missing some audio, but has a potential to be something like a twin-stick shooter mixed with Zelda. :P
