Run for you life! Monster! by Plomeg

[raw]
made by Plomeg for LD33 (JAM)
You are a monster running for his life (hence the title), and you have to avoid spears that angry villagers throw. You can heal with cows.

The difficulty level goes up every 300m, up to level 4, which is "hell mode".

Controls : Arrows and Space

You will need to get to itch.io to download the game and sources.

Notes :
It was made with SFML 2.3.1 in C++
Graphics assets with : Adobe Photoshop CC
Sounds with : sfxr
Font : open font, SourceSansPro

I wish I had time to change the monster design and add traps, more projectiles,... as well as general game difficulty balance.

I am sorry I can only provide windows exe, but it should run with no installation.

BUG LIST :
* the game won't reset distance and life when restarting, forcing you to restart the whole game

The 1.1 version (post LD) fixes reset bug and balance a bit the difficulty (now max level is 8) and some stats, no major game change.

Super cute!
It got super hard right before I died, haha. So many spears!
Jumping controls were a bit wonky, it was really hard to dodge the spears

Cool concept and mechanic.
After about 1000 meters the difficulty gets pretty intense.

Nice going. Like others say it gets impossible after 1000m.

It seems difficult to ramp up ... difficulty with the few mechanics going on. Some stuff one could add: Shields you can use. Obstacles. Homing spears that might loop around and come back. Have some of the villagers run towards you, which you need to dodge or somehow attack. After adding some extra mechanics, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LScL4CWe5E
Yes there is never enough time :)

I liked the mechanics, they feel like a different kind of twitch gameplay that what you usually see.

It is really hard :D. I liked the goofy graphics and the theme is spot on.

Distance and hp don't reset after game over which makes playing it again very hard :P I did enjoy the hailstorm of spears though, intense :P

Pretty good, although I wish hell mode didn't come until later. I didn't even get to test my skill! (Seriously, I got to hell mode on my first try and without jumping). Nice job otherwise!

Another C++ Windows Dev, hello friend!

Game becomes insane after 1000m!

Simple sounds, very bassy to show effect.

I love the mechanic of dodging spears! The arc in them makes it interesting choices to move around.

nice dodging game! it could have some more dept to it. like more interations or the sound of an angry mod to create a powerfull mood (but this is LD all the games could have more! X) ) cool simple concept.

It's been funny, felt little sad for the monster, but it was more incentive to help him xd maybe you could make different levels and let the monster escape at the end of each.
btw great job for making it with SFML C++ (i did too):)
