Shadow Crash by tanis

Introduction
You stranded on an unknown planet. It doesn't take too long to understand that at night shadows come out and will try to take your life. You embrace your weapon and prepare to delay the inevitable as sunset comes close.
Keyboard
- WASD to move and jump
- E to shoot

How to play
Your spaceship is broken and can't fly anymore. You want to survive but you're just delaying the inevitable as sunset approaches. But you noticed a weird cage-like machine nearby and... well... this planet is littered with CATS!
You might want to try and get the cats in the machine to see if you can grab their infamous seven lives.
And when it turns dark, well... that's when shadows start creeping around. Try to nuke them out as fast as possible and see how long you can survive.
Known bugs and limitations
I am a cross-platform junkie and I wrote all the code myself. The base code is my Binocle C engine and the actual game code is all scripted in Lua. Of course I decided to make some changes to my engine before LD and now I had to pay the price for it. Here's a list of known bugs that maybe I will try to fix in a post-compo version:
- Resizing the window on macOS and Windows will always show the game in the lower left corner instead of centering it on the screen. Same if you go full-screen
- The Windows version has all the text red (no idea how that happened as the code is the same on all the platforms)

or atleast maybe give the player the option to select the keys, or have both wasd and arrow keys work.
Graphis are great and the palette is really good.
Nice work!
the jumping sound was kinda a bit too high when I tested so I felt I was kinda avoiding it a bit.
so the dinosaurs (when fist playing without reading the comments I thought those were dinosaurs, but it seems they are the shadows that come at night right?) I found they cute, cute / scary which is cool
Gameplay wise however I felt this game lacked something. The cats are fun and funny, but seem a bit unpredictable. Instead of really fighting against the waves, I had more trouble to lure the enemies down to actually kill all of them. Also the jumping felt a bit unnatural, I think because you can't jump right after you press A or D. Probably easy to fix though! Overall, very good job! :)
The platformer controls felt a bit sudden, especially the jump. The extremely fast up and very slow down felt a bit strange. I would also consider adding things like 'cayote time' when you run off an edge and want to jump. Now I often ran off an edge, but it did not register my jump because I was just too late with pressing jump. Adding a cayote time where you have a slight time period that you can jump after leaving the ledge could make this feel a lot better I think.
This game looks amazing and I think the gameplay could be really nice with a few tweaks as well. I think the main problem for me was clarity as to what I should be doing. Anyway, solid submission and great job! :D
I'm sure you would get around to it, if you had more time, but I would like the controls a bit more precise and crisp. I had trouble just jumping on ledges and fell down by mistake quite a bit. I would also like more feedback from the environment - and especially enemies. Enemies flashing and getting pushed back when hit, and maybe some camera shake would make combat a lot nicer. Never really understood what I was supposed to do in the game either, but would probably have invested more time if the combat and movement was more on point.
Thanks for a beautiful game.
Nice work though!
