Screen of Death by A-Flat Miner Studios
Looks like you found your old handheld! It even has some of your old games around! You should totally play some of those.
Oh...that's unfortunate. Looks like it's on its last legs. Your screen is failing. Well, you should still play as much as you can before you can't see what's going on.
Here's the games you can choose from:
Party Snek: A classic. Run around get food before you run into the wall (or yourself).
Just a Hedgehog 2: Not as good as the original, but still okay. You run around and shoot ghosts. Pretty straightforward.
It's Bomb Time: The robot towers shoot at you and you have to avoid their bullets. Use your bombs to protect yourself and temporarily knock them out of commission. I don't remember those white bombs. Maybe you should try those where your screen is failing.
Slime Stomp: This is a take on a whack-a-mole game. Hit the slimes before they escape. Let too many get away and you lose!
Credits: I'm not sure what that one is. Weird. Definitely check it out.
Title Screen: Another weird looking one. You should start with that one.
Controls:
Arrow keys: Push the d-Pad
Space bar/enter: Push the A button

Really solid entry though, absolutely beautiful too
I liked the retro style and SFXs. Everything works nicely, but there is a bug with lines on screen which don't disappear when you launch another title.
All of all, good idea!
The inevitable deterioration of the device is primarily told through two visuals: single dead pixels (a failing LCD screen) and glitchy vertical lines (dirty/corroded cartridge contacts). Though I understand there’s a certain flashy item in one of the games that might repair one of those a little bit…?
What would have been funny in my humble opinion is if you slotted in `Credits` cartridge, the screen would magically get fixed - that way allowing everyone to see real names in the credits :)
I enjoy the environment, it brings back childhood memories of playing game boy in bed with a flashlight - though fortunately I got on with the gbc and haven't experienced these lcd defects!
This is the first game I've gotten a chance to review of the jam, and I have to say, it's going to be really friggin tough to follow.
