Hostile Life by Bosco

My first LD, Super fun. Tried to go for some weird feelingswith hostile vs cozy, glitch art vs spritework. It's a little survival platformer, yuo have to push crates back to your shelter to crack them open for more food. Staying away from your fire for too long makes you get cold and die quicker though.

I love this atmosphere. The glitchy surreal art and effects made me feel like I was playing a game made on an alien planet. This is a simple idea but the execution really elevates it. I did have some trouble with the crate physics, they seemed to want to fall into the ground as often as they could be pushed back to the shelter, but I still had a lot of fun with this.

Really good atmosphere! Music fits well. The physics are a bit wonky, although sometimes it actually fits with the whole glitchiness going on. Got to 2 minutes something, mostly by running back and forth at ground level. Ventured out to get some boxes in the trees but then I died.

Awesome entry! Having a completed game for a first jam is huge.

Pros:
- The glitchy atmosphere combined with the nature theme works super well - not something I'd think to do. I especially loved the lightning strikes.
- The little "z" prompts are a nice touch, really helps guide you to the things that matter.
- Great comfy sound effects.
- Rain drop physics!

Cons:
- As others have mentioned the physics are a bit funky. I found it a bit difficult to not clip through crates.
- Movement felt a bit floaty. Small suggestion would be to increase gravity/friction maybe?

Haha I like the glitches and the sound when the game is over. I like the art of this game and the concept, just a shame i did not survived. I am curious if we could go in the holes around for a longer survival. Well done

Physics is pretty weird, but overall pretty well. I loved that glitchy atmosphere with that music, it feels creepy. But this game lacks some sound design - there is almost no sounds of different objects and interactions which makes game feel little bit empty.

I lasted about 2 minutes.

Loved the atmosphere and general vibe! Would like to see a clearer visual distinction between objects with a collider and objects you can pass through.

Cool game, although some of the physics glitchiness (teleporting half a screen to the side, at one point) got a bit annoying. I love the whole vibe though.

The mood is good and the concept works fine, there are some physics engine bugs. It's a shame the life decrease speedly, i will have prefer explore a little more to find crates and discover the world.

The jpeg artifacts make my pixel artist brain shriek in terror.

The world looks cool, but the movement needs work. I didn't realize until the third play through that it was possible to climb the tree and explore the world further, but it seemed futile since you couldn't push a box back anyway. (at least, it seemed that way ┐( ̄~ ̄)┌)

The game is dripping with style. I love it.

Cool, I love the glitchy art style and sounds. Looks like you went at some of the graphics with a hex editor :D I would have liked to be able to hold Z to actually carry the crates or something instead of just knocking them around, but overall a solid idea for the main game loop!

The glitch effect is really cool. I got a little bit stuck on the tree and it send me flying which I found funny, more like a feature than a bug :D Cool entry that fits the theme!

It's quite fun and the gliching world theme is nice.

This game felt unique. This idea / gameplay I haven't seen anywhere.

I was fun but when I tried to explore the map, some terrain is quite difficult to traverse. (Or maybe that is to fit the glitching theme? )

Map design, world design is super great! Can't wait to see more of your work. I'll be watching you on twitter :eyes:

I recorded myself playing, message me on the Jam’s discord @ Dark Peace and I’ll send it to you. I loved the glitchy graphics. I got a bug where going on a tree's roots send you off in the air at hyper speed. Also I have no idea how the crates / plants growing works but I got to survive a bit.

This is really good for a first LD Jam game. I liked pretty much everything about it. I even liked that the character would glitch out on occasion and warp around the level. I did find that the crates seemed to spawn in regular spots, so a bit more randomness there would have been nice. I could see this being expanded into a much bigger game, kinda like a Starseed Pilgrim type thing. All round though a great entry.

Good stuff :8ball:
